Bringing betel is a hereditary tradition carried out by the people of Aceh, when a man applied for a woman.

Before the event takes Ranup, to find a mate for a boy who is considered an adult, the family will send someone who is considered wise in speaking to take care of arranged marriage. If you have got the girl in question, then she will first review the girl's status. If no one has yet, then he will convey the intention to propose to the girl.

On the day that had been agreed upon, a group of people from the male side came to the girl's parents' house by carrying betel as a reinforcement of the bond and its contents. After the application is complete, the man will beg for leave to go home and the woman's family asks for time to consult with her daughter about whether or not the application is accepted.

If the application is accepted, the man's family will come back to do the peukong haba (reinforce the conversation), namely discussing when the wedding day will take place, including determining how much money to receive (called jeulamee) requested and how many guests will be invited. Usually at this event at the same time held an engagement ceremony (called jak ba jak-kiri sign, ba-carrying signs, meaning in the form of a sign that has been held-ring).
