RE: Is Steemit Really Censor Resistant? Is It the Best Place for Ideas to Flow Freely?

in #steemit7 years ago

Hi @moeknows, allow me to respond to your points.

  • To your point # 1: It doesn't matter much to me if those accounts are sentient beings or bots. It achieves the same thing of "ganging up" on you. In the physical world, if I have 10 humans beat me up, I'm still hurt. If I have 10 physical robots beat me up, it still hurts. Therefore, it's irrelevant if they are 10 individual beings vs bots. They act as his "attack dogs."
  • To your point #2: I understand the theory of how downvotes should be used. Youtube and other platforms have downvotes used to do the same thing. The difference is, everyone's downvotes are worth the same on Youtube and other platforms. A small minority cant influence a grand majority. But this is not true here, in Steemit land. Here, a small minority can influence a HUGE majority. I don't think that's right.
  • To your point #3: 50k is just an example number I pulled out of the air. I'm sure some smart people can think of the proper formula to represent what is a "big enough" amount of votes needed to affect the person's Reputation and to hide their post.

The big point in all of this is, steemit downvoting system is broken. Vigilante/mafia's are what rule what is "right/wrong." And that style has never worked in real society.

It matters, maybe not in this case, but in general because here, it makes no difference whether you were downvoted/upvoted 50 times or once. All that matters is the SP of the person downvoting you. So whether Bernie does it from 50 accounts or a single account makes very little difference. I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining that because it is not always apparent.

Not really. Here, downvotes are used to reward monetary funds meaning that it is perfectly acceptable and even encouraged to downvote good works for no other reason than because you feel that the rewards were too much.

In order to fix a problem, you have to understand the problem. Your proposed system only addresses a single aspect of a multi-faceted problem. I just wanted to relay some of the facts.
