RE: My week as a Dolphin

in #steemit7 years ago

I tried to make less than 10% of my support for users larger than myself. Around 20-30% went to large minnows close to my size and the rest (over 50%) went to smaller minnows. This is essentially how I will be using my upvote when I actually have this much SP of my own.

This seems like a good base rate, and then on any given week you can always adjust it downwards. Is there an easy way to figure this out or are you counting it manually?

I've seen some votes from you, and I want to let you know that you are always welcome to not vote on my posts/comments and distribute that value to someone smaller instead. Post-delegation you probably have way more votes you want to give than you have available, and they probably shouldn't be going to me.

I am just making rough estimates, I could be off, but if I feel like I’ve upvoted more than 10% large accounts I cool it and save some for other people.

I would actually rather give the upvotes to you and people like you than brand new users sometimes. My long term goal at the platform (aside from just doing my thing) is to create as many responsible dolphins as possible, get as much of the wealth towards the middle as possible, particularly in the hands of people who will continue to help others with it. That’s means we need more support for large minnows. @curie and @ocd generally help out small minnows, so does the whole intro committee and so do initiatives like PAL and others. So I am happy to share my upvote with anyone who is community oriented and creating good content, specifically content creators and people who are supporting initiatives that don’t have a strict hierarchy. Just because you aren’t tiny doesn’t mean you aren’t undervalued.

That wasn't meant to criticize your count, but because I was hoping for an easy way to get one of my own. (I think you knew this but just in case.)

The thing is, I have capital and I'm willing to use it. My experiment is still a long ways from complete, but I'm reasonably convinced that I could do well both for myself and for the platform even if I never got a vote that I didn't pay for. (At least as long as that one whale is selling me his votes at a huge discount.) Votes on top of that are great - but probably more meaningful to someone else. I feel like I'm almost telling you not to vote for me now, and that isn't my point. It's your vote.

But your understanding of my goals here means a lot more to me.

I didn’t fully realize you were buying your vote although I suspected with the high payouts.. I’ll probably still upvote for you sometimes because I like you but knowing that, maybe I’ll save some of my votes for you til after you stop buying votes. I’m not really a fan of buying votes but I can still be friends with people who have different opinions of it.

I think it's more important that we agree on this part:

My long term goal at the platform (aside from just doing my thing) is to create as many responsible dolphins as possible, get as much of the wealth towards the middle as possible, particularly in the hands of people who will continue to help others with it.

There is a method to my madness. It may take a while for me to be able to communicate it though.
