Raising the memo flag
Anyone annoyed by all of the 0.001 memo spam sent by bidbots and resteem services?

Here's an idea. Make the wallet transfer in limit an optional setting. At 0.001 (bare minimum for Steem), they are able to send 1000 memos for 1 SBD. That is crazy as there are only about 60,000 active users on the platform. If the limit was increased to say 0.02, that would mean to get the same reach, it is going to cost them 20 SBD. But, some people might not want that so, make it an optional setting. This will also stop a lot of the memo spam that the larger accounts get from people wanting this or that. Perhaps there could be a maximum limit of 1 SBD.
On top of this, if an account transfers and it is below the set threshold, it could be either kicked back to the account with a memo stating the threshold or, perhaps even burned. People would be much more careful sending memos if the price was higher and there was a risk of burning.
If someone I know is actually targeting me directly, they could come to my wallet, see the threshold and then send the memo appropriately. If they really needed to get a message to me in this way, they could then use the upper 1 SBD limit to ensure it. For me, memo spam is one of the worst kinds because I can't even flag it as such and with such a low cost, there is nothing stopping them from spamming almost daily.
This might push more of their spam onto the posts but, at least there they are able to be flagged and muted. In the real world, there is a cost to sending junk mail and the email spam is mostly filtered. My wallet, although public, is still mine and there should be some option to filter what comes into it. It would be a small tweak to the UI but, it might kill some of the spam from the resteem services and make them actually work for their clientele.
Or, how about a flag option on wallet transfers that only affects Rep and if under a certain rep, they can't send memos anymore?

I agree on that! I get bombarded by resteem services which we know doesn't work because the majority are either dead accounts or bot accounts they accumulated.
Increase the memo fee, If someone needs to message someone so badly then it is worth it.
I received a ton of witness vote requests when I had to remove a witness vote I had to move it to someone else and it was a fast automated message.
There's something I still don't get, I didn't receive a memo spam not until my wallet got a reasonable amount of steem transfer. Do the spam bots operate based on a set wallet balance? Are they programmed to know which wallet is robust or not?
most likely, if you can't afford their services, why would they memo you? It is pretty easy for a bot to be programmed to only send to some wallets.

I could live with a feature where each one could set the limit themselves.
But this should also be incorporated when trying to send a memo to someone. It should inform me what the threshold of the recipient is. For sure if the steem or SP will be burned.
I don’t have so much Spam in my wallet, I am just not important enough 😂
For me it is just free steem. But I do understand if you get lots of them that it can become really annoying!

This is a great idea, I already find these memos irritating (and not in the slightest bit tempting!) enough as it is.
Allowing me to set a limit and a bounce back refund is a nice balance I think. I think this is relatively 'low hanging fruit' in terms of implementing it, and I can't see there being too much disagreement.
Hopefully this will happen as I can only see myself getting more of them over time otherwise and it most certainly isn't desirable.
I certainly find it annoying. it honestly makes me never want to use their services at all. In my opinion they are wasting their time and money.
I don't know how anyone thinks it is going to really help them anyway but, their advertising approach is terrible.
It sounds like a good idea, although I must say memo spam doesn't annoy me much, as I hardly notice it; my eyes seem to skip over it with great ease. There are many other things that annoy me much more.
Imagine a whale having to scroll down through a thousand wallet entries just to see a transaction from two days ago. The bigger you get the worse it gets.

At one point, for a very brief moment we had this warning message in some of the memo transfers, probably based on the rep of the person sending. This gave users the possibility to click the memo messages open, but they were normally hidden from people with rep 25 and below.
This could be one option to give people the option to see the messages, but generally hide them.
For the low reps yes I think it is good but, I would still prefer not to get memos from resteem services and the like at all. Even the ones from new witnesses annoy me. If they want my vote, earn it on the platform.

Mostly people just need stop sending them money they will run out and after a while of not turning a profit they will go elsewhere to make said money. Everytime someone pays them they just feed them spam money.
Last month I wrote Wallet Spam And Phishing Attempts Seem On The Rise on my thoughts of allowing the users to set their own wallet fees as well as allowing people to create a whitelist so legit usues for that user did not have to meet that threshold with that user.
The bots are using people's wallets as the ad section of a newspaper. 0.01 is totally not enough to get an ad space in my wallet. They either have to start sending me more money or, indeed, there should be a flag option for transaction memos.
Yep, a small amount more and they all stop the spam as it gets too expensive for them.
