Steemit looks like some old outdated blogging site.
Steemit needs some serious changes.
Positive criticism tends to lead towards positive changes. At first glance, steemit looks like an outdated blogging website. Here are some complaints:
- Posts get lost after 10 minutes.
- No work has been done on the theme since.. ever?
- No features like saving articles, suggested articles
- No proper android/ios app yet. (eSteem is horrible)
- Using from phone is so annoying and laggy.
- Lacking features like analytics showing post reach, queued income etc.
- Many many more
I get that it's still in beta, which explains many things, but it is such a revolutionary concept that it shouldn't be taken lightly. It would be a shame if this incredible concept goes to the gutter. I truly believe it has potential to become something MASSIVE but with how things are now, it doesn't look great. The only motivation is for the whales to earn money. There is no serious interest for good bloggers. Most my friends I recommend it to have stopped using it.
There are some whales that are doing good work but the thing is, they don't have to, a whale can upvote literally anything regardless of it's quality and people will upvote it in hopes of getting some profits and get it into the trending meanwhile a good blogger who puts in a lot of hard work into his/her posts can stay stuck in the bottom forever with no recognition whatsoever. Frankly, it feels like we are only following the whales to earn some money, no matter what shit they post (not pointing any fingers).
As a software engineering student myself, lemme tell you from personal experience, it DOES NOT require much work to do a user interface revamp, changing the theme and adding in some extra features. Even a single person can do it on his own given a week or two, a team can handle it in a few days. User interface (along with other things) needs some serious work.
I am brand new here, and actually have the exact same complaints (plus or minus the whales thing because I have no idea what that means exactly).
The biggest complaint I have is that it is so counter-intuitive to start with and it seems that if you already have a pretty good stack up outside of STEEM or own a DSLR you are made in the shade on getting some steem, basically with the rest of us attempting to be amusing, thought provoking or just random enough with our content to be found and hopefully skyrocketed into the STEEM-o-sphere(?)
Anyway, I wish I knew anything about ruby or even this whole witness business so that I could contribute back to the community, though that seems to also be about who you know.
I guess I will continue on.
The whales are basically the biggest fish on steemit.
Basically
There are minnows. Us, the small fish. Our upvote gives a cent at best.
Dolphins, they have a decent amount of steempower. Their upvote values at around between a few cents and a dollar.
And Whales, they have massive amount of steempower. When they like something, YOU'LL know. When they like something, you'll see it under "Recommended, Hot, Trending", and pretty much heading every other sexy category, with a good number of monetarily valued digits under them.
People follow them around (I'm also guilty) in hopes of getting their attention and hopefully an upvote or two (can you blame anyone?)
Not one little bit though. Is it any different than other popularity contests?
Oh well... I'll swim within the slip stream!!
I agree that theres a lot that could be added an tweaked on. Im in no way capable of doing it. Zero coding knowledge. We as a community should put out some contests maybe to influence some developments..... wouldn't be a bad idea. Just imagine if only half of what you mentioned was done how high steem price would climb.....
Yea, that is a good idea
If even one of the top 10 whales got motivated, or the witnesses, they could get the developers to bring in a lot of changes.
Maybe polls for what users want or that contest idea, or anything positive.
Yes, there are many things that need revamped. I do see that this will evolve into a even better platform. Again yes, it is in beta, so we just have to comment on things to improve on and hopefully they might get into any future updates. I think the concept over shadows the gui at the moment. Thanks...
The concept does overshadow the other stuff but, in the long run, unless they make changes, people will start to abandon it eventually. I'm the only one of my friends who hasn't abandoned it yet and one of my friends even invested a lot of money in it to make himself a dolphin (500SP).
Very true, I have had similar thoughts about it.
Who are the developers and what are the plans for Steemit. I don't know.
I wish it was bit fairer so everyone could benefit instead of a few.
Yea,
🐳 get all the attention lol.
I've had similar feedback. I will have to share my positive critiques as well in a post. Thank you for sharing! I'm already following you, but I upvoted and resteemed.
Thank you
