Pin-up Thursday: Dita or Betty?

I guess you can say my love of pin-up started when I was around 14, when my aunt who happened to be a burlesque dancer back in the 70s, would show me old Polaroids of she and her friends.

They were gorgeous, tatooed, bad-ass chicks (like me), and ever since I've been hooked! (Although I've never had the guts to pose or dance!)

So I've decided to take my love pin-up, burlesque, and all things sexy, and "voila," here we are!

Since this is my first entry of "Pin-Up Thursday" (which I choose because... why not Thursday?), I wanted to start it off with the 2 baddest bitches to ever grace the camera:

DITA VON TEESE & BETTY PAGE!

Both Ladies where game changers when it came to sexual expression and feminism without question, but, you could make a very strong argument that Betty Page had a much harder hill to climb!

Being an adult model in the 50s, in "wholesome" America, was basically social suicide. She was called every horrible name you can image and even had her life threatened by the same men who would pay for her pics and jack-off in secret!

But she never backed down or tried to hide her sexuality!

Eventually Betty was given the respect she so RIGHTFULLY deserves. Being written in the history books as the "first nude centerfold!" She's had movies and documentaries made about her life. And of course, is adored by every rebellious ass woman who's been told to be more "lady-like!"

Dita, on the other hand had a different hill to climb. When she started out the art of burlesque was dying a slow death. Living in more "extreme" times, with hardcore porn and the "in your face grinding" of modern strip clubs, the nuance and slow tease of burlesque wasn't a draw anymore.

Dita, having loved the art all of her life, had the drive to keep it alive, and almost single-handedly revolutionized the art burlesque. She made it mainstream enough that even Christian housewives were taking her classes to keep their husbands out of... "trouble". She not only made herself a celebrity in the end, but she also made herself a brand!
