Steemit: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, So Far

in #steemit7 years ago

Over the last months I have had time to generally navigate through Steemit and get accustomed to its general style. There's a lot of good, I think, in this site, but it bears mentioning the less positive also- in hopes specifically that it can be ameliorated.

THE GOOD:

First and foremost is the legendarily un-moderated content of this site. For those of us who have ever been censored in any way elsewhere this is a breath of fresh air.

Second to that, the acceptance of political content. I can remember when Vidme attempted to challenge Youtube; I warned them not to abuse political users, which they subsequently did, and now they don't exist anymore. Thoughts that make you go HMMMM

Third, the community itself, which is active and growing. Growth is always a good thing. It's also a highly literate community with a lot of references to social topics, cryptocurrency, and such.

THE BAD:

There's really only one complaint I have about Steemit thus far which is that when attempting to upload material via the associated Dtube, it becomes a hassle, sometimes, because it can take literally a half hour to upload a video that is only in 720p and not that long. For people who make multiple videos a day this means we have to expend significant effort on Steemit and I feel that a lot of creators who would otherwise use this site regularly abandon it after a few days of slow uploads. I know a host of larger creators on other sites who use, for example, Bitchute or Pewtube, but do not have a Steemit account.

THE UGLY:

Again there's only one issue here; for less tech-literate individuals who are used to more simplistic sites, the rather opaque notion of steem dollars, blockchains, and so forth, is elusive. Even for myself, I admit, it's a bit much, to the point where I am probably ignoring some site functions in favor of merely uploading and sometimes interacting with content.

And so there you have it, a little summation of my experience thus far.

Sort:

You could see it as a positive thing: still so much to discover 🤣. I share your opinions, haven't used dtube, but other sites like steepshot and bescouted sometimes lose there connection to steemit.

Styx I highly recomend you look at the Dlive dapp over Dtube. Dtube is underpeforming and it even deletes you videos after a month has gone by.

Get ready because shits going to get a lot more ugly very soon.

Now that EOS is live and we will be looking at direct blockchain based competitors. Its going to result in a dapps explosion which will be fuck all hard to explain to outsiders but its going to be difficulty to ignore. This is going to be huge for content creators though.

The easiest explanation. Is that crypto is molding into being application based. So its not just coins anymore. Now its moving to social media and god knows what else. I will be personally moving gaming into this direction as well if I can.

I recently released a video on Dlive explaining my thoughts on what a dapp is and even that doesn't fully explain the full implications of the topic.

Here is the video :

The only feature you may be ignoring I think is if you are not planning to cash out your crypto then you should look to power it up and use that power to upvote content you want to promote. The more steem power you have the more powerful your upvotes become. In your case you will probably have the ability to drop a dime on people for doing stuff you think is cool.

Ten cents doesn't sound like much but its actually a lot if you have hundreds / thousands of people doing it at the same time for every post.

Other than that you are doing fine man. Keep the content flowing!

Keep banging your sticks, styx! Been following and appreciating your content pre "YouTube" award for X-number of subscribers... Your voice is a valid one... Rock on, bro!
