STEEMIT: Some of the most popular locations that users are from.
Some of the most popular locations
A few weeks ago I was talking to a very good friend of mine about STEEMIT and explained how it had captured the imagination of many across the globe.
My friend and his wife are avid travellers and have travelled all around the world over the last 30-40 years.
Now they are retired they spend anything up to 3 months per year out of the U.K.
One area that they have travelled to on many occasions is East Asia and it was this that triggered what I wanted to share with you today.
While I was explaining to my friend the mechanics and the concept of STEEMIT he made a bet with me that there would be a large portion of users from the Mid to East Asia regions.
He wasn't wrong.
Earlier I decided to lift the hood on the data and have a good rummage around.
This is what I found.
Extracting the locations from 33,980 records (8,738 locations) I wanted to look at the most popular locations.
A location was either: a Town, a City, an Area, or Country.
Out of these 33,980 records the following represent the Top 67 locations and covers 11,074 records.
On other words the Top 67 locations are represented from 8,738 locations extracted.
It may come as a surprise to some but the Top 10 in order is..... India, USA, Venezuela, UK, Canada, Germany, Philippines, Australia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Los Angeles, California, New York, London, Aceh, South Africa, Seoul, Florida, Korea.
Here is the alphabetical list....

I guess he was right, there are a lot from the Mid to East Asia regions.

It is strange I know there are many Chinese users.
Ahh. This maybe be because they have been typed in Chinese. Sadly I had to omit these from the search. I should have pointed this out. Thanks for raising it. Stephen
Maybe tags with cn are major in Chinese
Does steemit allowed in china?

I always like to read your blog, @stephenkendal, probably because I like statistics. By the way, my father is a mathematician and very passionate about statistics. I'm from Nigeria living in Belgrade, Serbia. It feels good to see Nigeria in the 11th position, according to your statistics. Let me quickly point out two things. The first is that Lagos is a city in Nigeria, so it might work better to add up the figures 75 (Lagos) +289 (Nigeria)=364. I am cork sure that there are some Nigerians who write West Africa in their profile. The second is that I know of Serbs from Serbia, the country I reside at the moment, who are in steemit. More often than not, they use the tag ''srpski''/ #srpski. It appears the Serbs are few in number, due to language barrier. Please, Stephen, I would really appreciate if you can help me with the names of Serbs, who are registered in steemit to help me plan a meet up. I am only familiar with @lighteye. Thanks for sharing with us.
