Ok so the main reason for this post is to remind people about our local meetup this week. If it’s out of sight it’s out of mind right? I wanted to add a few organizational tips and thoughts as well so you can run a successful meetup in your area:

[1] Always Be Promoting!

You have to be consistent spreading the word every way you can using flyers, emails, personal phone calls etc. The best way to get exposure for a Steemit meetup is on Steemit itself. There are new people joining the platform every day and are probably looking for a meetup to attend and learn. The key is to post about the meetup at least a few times before the event because a lot of people will probably miss it. It’s also a good idea to team up with other co-organizers and alternate posting about the Meetup here on Steemit. That’s why @anwenbaumeister and I alternate to mix things up. Make sure you place a #meetup tag on your post so people can find it more easily. Find others you discover who are local and comment on their posts. Either that or try steemit.chat to find them there!

[2] Follow up!

It’s good to get people’s email addresses when they do attend. Meetup.com may be a good place for some exposure, but not everyone pays attention or receives emails from Meetup so if you have an email address you can send out additional reminders. We have 25+ people the last time, but unfortunately I wasn’t active gathering emails so we only got about 6 emails. Also thank people for attending! The Meetup website has a way to follow up by clicking a [Good to See You] button and that's an effective way of appreciating people when they do attend and to encourage them to come back!

[3] Make it Memorable and Keep People Coming Back!

Ok so it’s not easy vying for people’s time and it’s even more difficult to keep people coming back. I think that’s an issue all startups and organizations face. I helped organize a liberty meetup for a while and there were a few regulars, but it was hard to keep people coming back to grow. I see startups these days really focus on retention just as much as growth. I think things we learn will also help the Steemit platform with retention as well. On Meetup there are a lot of events around our area with a lot of high profile speakers and oftentimes with free food. So what makes people want to come back and be active? That’s probably a good question to keep in mind when organizing the meetup.

[4] Staying In Touch!

Steemit.chat is the best place to stay connected with others in the community. So once we figure out how to create a steemit.chat group channel we’ll create one for the SF Steemit Meetup so we can stay connected more closely with others and guide them along the way to becoming an expert on the platform. Ok now I just have to figure out how to create a steemit.chat group channel…

Hope these few tips help you when you’re organizing!

Fantastic! Look forward to meeting you at the event @ryanbaer!
Thanks for the tip on the channel. Will connect with the admin of Steemit.chat!

Hey @ryanbear! I'm excited you can make it and look forward to seeing you again!
If you have friends that are interested about Steemit but are not yet on it feel free to bring them, we'll have more than enough food and drinks :-)

Might hit you up about this, bud!

I'm going to try my damnedest to make it out to this one!

I'll see if I can get an LA group that wants to make the drive.

That would be great! If you're that far, we do have the Art Show on October 27th too so that might give you more time to plan a trip up here?

That would be awesome @veryrico!! I hope to see you again this week or at our next Meetup in October.

If you need T-Shirts for the meetup, I can help! :) Please check this. Maybe you have one cool design idea for your followers!

How many people are you expecting to have at this one?

Exciting event on the way!

Thanks for the info. I was looking into doing a meetup in Phoenix soon, and this post should help.
