The Ten Commandments of Steem

in #steemit6 years ago

Greetings and well met to all the Steemians!

Steem Pope is here letting you know what is to be expected on the blockchain. @steempope's mission is to keep tags such as the #christian-trail and #steemchurch pure and free from the common abuses we see on this platform with a hint of satire from the name alone.

Far too often, we see those who supposedly devote themselves to the Most High end up in the @steemcleaners Discord or being tailed by @steemflagrewards for sinful behaviors such as plagiarism, vote farming with faucet delegations, etc.

Without further delay, here are the Ten Commandments of Steem for those who profess to be religious should take note. Of course, the same principles of common decency could apply to everyone as well. While you are free to choose as you wish, remember that others are entitled to as well.

1. Thou shall have no other Gods before me. (Exodus 20:3)

We don't have to go the extreme and declare you should have no other blockchain besides Steem.

Too often, abuses happen because monetary gain became more important than of being an honest Steemian, or a person of faith.

2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image. (Exodus 20:4)

Especially not @ned, or any whale for that matter. Steem is what we make of it.

3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain (Exodus 20:7)

For Jesus despised the pharisees due to their hypocrisy. Don't profess to be a person of faith and abuse the platform for your own minuscule gains. "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36)

The irony that comes with muttering the Lord's name and commits serial plagiarism does not sit well with your standing on earth or in heaven.

4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy (Exodus 20:8)

If you remember to do this in real life, don't ruin it by being a dishonest person on the Steem blockchain. Just because no one knows who you are here doesn't mean you can play the other side and do questionable things around here.

5. Honour thy father and thy mother (Exodus 20:12)

In this case, it's more like your curators and commentators. It would be nice if you could spare the time to at least acknowledge their presence and reply to them. It's a matter of courtesy. You don't have to do it, but it wouldn't hurt you either.

6. Thou shalt not kill (Exodus 20:13)

That may sound extreme, but let's keep whatever grudge on Steemit on the blockchain. There's no reason for you to escalate issues such as petty squabbles and disagreement with rewards into real life. It is a social media, not a hit list.

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery (Exodus 20:14)

There isn't an Ashley Madison here yet, but just a heads up. It would also be incredibly dumb to leave permanent marks on the blockchain for all to remember.

8. Thou shalt not steal (Exodus 20:15)

Phishers are bad. Making fake businesses is bad. Plagiarism is also bad. Promoting scam is even worse. Don't do it.

9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour (Exodus 20:16)

Don't lie. The blockchain records many things. Even in Discords, people keep records of many things. Not only will you look ridiculous, it will ruin your credibility.

10. Thou shalt not covet (Exodus 20:17)

If you want to be somewhere a dolphin, orca, or even a whale is at, do the following things:

  1. Invest your own funds
  2. Work your tail off
  3. Be early to a project next time

Trying to redistribute the wealth will not only not end well, but probably will not happen due to the existing infrastructure. Coveting will generally lead you to commit all sorts of abuse. Don't fall for that trap. Just because there are those who do it doesn't mean you should compromise your own integrity.

My fellow brothers and sisters of faith, be true to yourselves and Steem on.
