If you're not new to the blogging world, you know there are TONS of articles out there on SEO being dead... except it never is.
Every year or so, the search algorithms evolves, and with each new evolution more SEO professionals get their tactics blacklisted, and their efforts destroyed.
This is natural!
However, with each new update, a new blogger who saw his sites sandboxed or that can't adapt to the evolution of pageranking factors blogs about:
- SEO IS DEAD!
I thought I knew better than to do one of these posts, but now I'm making it because SEO is DEAD TO ME!

SEO and its Intricate Practices:
Ok, so there was a time in which SEO was all about the amount of links to your page.
I knew a SEO professional who used to proudly say he could rank a blank page for any term. That guy made a fortune because things were simple back then, and good for him or else he wouldn't be able to pull it off now.
Now, there are a lot of factors that influence SEO, and most of them are extremely hard to fake, so SEO is reserved to the whitest hatters or the reeeeally amazing grey hat SEO practitioners.
Before Steem came into my life, I was busy getting links, writing guest posts, reading algorithm updates every day and more.
I had to be on top of the search engine game or I'd be out of the "job"... my blog wouldn't feed me!
But now, with Steem, things got easier - and I mean WAY easier!
SEO is DEAD: In Comes a Better Paradigm!
SEO is dead to me!
There's no way I'll ever return to the overworking practices I was having before coming to the blockchain.
The amount of learning, work and time in order to keep yourself relevant isn't worth it now that I have access to a better paradigm.
You see, I can post here and people come... even a total newbie here can get people on his page with relative ease, whereas if you're a slave of Google you can wait 200 years if you pick the wrong keywords, and nobody will come.
So, what changed? Why the new paradigm?
It has to do with decentralization, and that's why I love that word so much...
Decentralization: Cut the Middle Man Out!
Decentralization is an exciting word for some, and a dangerous word for others.
Mostly, it is dangerous for those who are used to be the middle men, the so-called "Gatekeepers".
Google is a gatekeeper in a way that it digests the content of the World Wide Web and decides exactly what should be read and what shouldn't be read.
Fortunes are made according to the algorithms' whims and a bump on the SERPs can make or break a business or even scam.
This is an insane amount of power.
Why does it have to be this way though? Well, who's going to organize the content if you don't pay them for it?
No one. Bots will have to do the trick.
Well, STEEM rewards people for organizing content, they do this via curation, and even if you go on and on about how unfair the voting system is, it works wonders and killed SEO for me.
The truth is, with all the flaws any pioneering system must have, you won't see a scam taking number 1 spot on trending unless some really odd circumstances are at play.
With Google, scams topping the list for some keywords is COMMON!
Heck, TONS of Internet Marketers depend on that very thing to survive. Just google make money online and you'll see pages and pages worth of scams that would be obviously flagged around here.
It Isn't Perfect: But!
Granted, what we have now isn't perfect... but you know what?
The ability for me to just write and know people will come, even if not many, and that my article won't be invisible because I failed to write down a keyword or something means a lot to me.
The ease of mind to come, write, publish and see results is GROUNDBREAKING!
Plus, let's not forget that GOOGLE had TONS of years and money to develop their "curation" method, while STEEM had one year and managed to make me feel disgust at the traditional paradigm.
Heck, I even like Presearch more than google now!

Interesting post. For those unfamiliar, SEO = search engine optimization. The act of optimizing a site or content to rank for specific keywords or queries.
While you make some valid points, Google e.g. al. will retain their places as gatekeepers for many years to conmne, whether in their current form as a destination to enter a query or whether they evolve into something else.
This is mainly due to the existing and ever-growing infrastructure they are putting in place to be at as many touchpoints and entry points to the digital world as they can.
You need only look to the apps currently offered by Google...search app, maps, Gboard, Gmail, etc. And that doesn't scratch the thousands of developer APIs that power many third party applications. So in one form or another, Google is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
We can make change if we want it, but progress is slow. I mean, the less tech savvy users nearly always use the default option, despite exponentially better options on the market...think Internet Explorer over Firefox, etc., or using the default Yahoo search toolbar vs using DuckDuckGo as a better option for privacy.

I was going to post about this same exact topic! J/K today is Mineral Mondays, but I still think there is room for traditional blogs if we can get rid of Google. They are wielding too much power and control over the net and not in a good way. Demonetizing, shadow banning searches all in the name of Social Justice.
On our traditional blogs, like mine, https://cryptonighttokyo.com I am using a javascript Monero miner. That is the future of monetization. The problem is getting your site recognized by search engines. Maybe we will just have to go back to the organic way of building an audience, like here on Steemit, relationships.
I was starting to get into SEO around 2015 because my wife and I really wanted to start a travel blog since we traveled so much. At one time one of her sites had a very good ranking, but even with that we couldn't make money with adsense or Amazon.
I'm very grateful Steemit came around because now I will have a larger nest egg. I would like to see it become more like a Google or Yahoo though with parts sectioned off for shopping, search, blogs, music/video. That would really be amazing and take away some of that power from Google. What do you think?
I think that would be great, but Im not sure Steem is the one to make it happen.
I think this one was a great pioneer, but the one that will really hit the home run is the app that'll dethrone this one.
I may be wrong, but I dont see this one becoming so large.
Fun times! My hubby did a lot of SEO work back then, too. I helped out with the basics, like blog commenting and link building.
Good for me (and everyone else, I'm sure), I could practice what I learned in the Steemit platform. For one, it's because of SEO that I have full understanding on how important it is to make valuable post-related comments that is far beyond the "Nice post!" auto-response.
Indeed, contextual keywords and whatnot... I see no reason to compromise on quality to sprinkle SEO here, and that is liberating.
I am going to be honest. I have no idea what SEO stands for but even without that knowledge i was able to easily understand the article and why steemit has made your life exponentially easier.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.. It's a lot of techniques to make a website appear on the top searches like google with some key words ;)

As far as my life, yeah it became substantially easier. Now I only need to post and comment, as well as curate... before I had to take a long hard knack at SEO too.
SEO on YouTube is frustrating as @#$&... I can't get any major views or subscribers. I've tried all the titles, tags, thumbnails, and description box methods and still fall short. Here on steemit I've found a new life and enjoyment in making and sharing content. (I hope my comment isn't off topic)

No, I was doing SEO until November.
I have to say SEO is still the most used Online Marketing Tool so far. Of course nowadays it's hard work, but it's the best way to get a sustainable amount of users over a long period of time on your webpage/shop etc. For example in my firm it works until today in a way that no one of our sales reps has to make cold calls, since we get all the organic lead traffic we need.
But have to say, that I'm in the same mood as @spiritumax . I want it to be dead to me.

SEO was easy 10 years ago, but has become increasingly harder and harder as the huge brands pretty much own search results now due to their huge budgets. Now, I won't say that is going to happen here, but budgets are becoming an issue if you want to get your "news" from the trending page. Because trending is really "promoted" and it's taking a larger and larger budget to get anywhere near the top of the trending page.
That said, Steemit still beats building a blog and using SEO to get noticed hands down and by a country mile!
Yeap... even if you're a small fry here, you can get noticed... Heck, even if a total nobody posts shit, someone will find it and flag it :D
