Quality over Quantity: What will the future of Steemit look like and is your self worth only a few cents ?steemCreated with Sketch.

With Steemit's popularity growing faster by the minute, with more and more users signing up . I noticed a trend on here that is getting more popular by the minute as well.

This trend is similar to people asking for other people to follow them. I have been guilty of this as well. However I came to the realization that unlike other social media sites, Steemit is in a class of its own with a ton of potential to be the top social media site in the near future. Inorder for it to be the top site , in my opion we shouldn't ask for people to follow us and in return we follow them back.We should let the quality of our posts and comments gain followers for us.

With that said I don't think that approach is anywhere near as bad and cringeworthy as "THE TREND" I noticed recently that can cause Steemit's future identity to morph into a site that is filled with threads and comments that have no depth to them and filled with virtual panhandlers as the user base.

The threads I am talking about are threads where people post, with an array of requests from fellow members. Inorder to make some members do these things these creators of these posts will give out free Steem Dollars.

Sure a lot of people love contests and free stuff, and an occasional give away can be fun, but after doing some searches on Steem, I came across hundreds of thousands of posts where people are asking others to do the following to win some Steem Dollars (SBD) or they will give them a fraction of SBD if they did the following(once again I too was guilty for falling for this trick, one time though):

  1. Resteem their post
  2. Comment in the post (some even have a 2 sentence minim)
  3. Upvote their post
  4. Follow them

After seeing several more posts along similar lines I realized I was bamboozled the time I participated in one of these last week.

As you can see in the pictures below the amount of posts asking for followers for money is rediculously high. Though with searches like this not all posts are asking for money to follow, resteem, etc . But a majority of the results are just that.

Next time you come across a post requesting you to do a number of things for a little amount of SBD or a chance to win SBD ask yourself if it is worth your time, energy and pride to do those things for that user? If they post quality content then it might be of value to help them out or just follow them.

If you want followers then create quality content yourself.

In conclusion Steemit is still really new and for it to continue to grow we must all have the mindset of looking at the site with a long term perspective. That means not look to gain a quick buck or in this case a few cents by giving into these posters demands and resteemig posts that serve no real value. Instead check out posts that are new and if it has good info resteem that and even follow them to have your home feed filled quality content. Also if you post quality content the favor will be returned.

This approach will give Steemit members, followers who are actually active and invested to the site. Thus quality over quantity will help you earn more money as well. What good is having 2000 followers when 1800 of them don't even read, comment, or upvote what you write?

Thanks man , I can you please resteem and follow me ;P jk jk

It's just as pathetic as people who post a picture on FB and text their friend to like their picture.

It is also exploiting the system.

I have upvoted you and followed you because you deserve it, not because I want you to do the same. I might even resteem your post. =)

Seriously, I myself like the fact that you can earn here and I would like to earn writing about things I am interested in, but you can't deny the fact there is a different audience for different things, and the size of those audiences is also different. I am even considering getting some of my colleagues on board, for example, so we can have a bit of an education oriented discussion going here. There is a huge community of researchers out there on websites like ResearchGate, etc., that post great pieces for free. If they posted them here, they would at least get a bit of cash for it provided there is an audience for it here (and there is practically none).

I hear you about those non-reading followers. It is sad, but it is money)

Correction
It turns out I am already following you)

Lol you likely were following me cause I asked you to follow me earlier when I first joined hahaha jk

Thanks for the compliment though. As for the community of researchers have faith in Steemit as it is still relatively really new unheard of to most people and I believe they just ended the beta phase so it might grow , actually I expect it to grow a lot more user wise. I think last year this time there was about 50k users and now there is over a million maybe more than a million but definitely a million.

The cool thing is the tag features allow the posts to be visible under Jose tag categories. So people interested I certain topics can use the tags to search.

My main concern is that hopefully it doesn't turn into just people doing contests for money all the time but the beautify of the net is that the user base can decide what to turn the site into.

Yeah, we'll see. I am curious about Steem's future and hope it doesn't end up being a place for a few chosen ones (or if it does, I hope to be one of them =)))

Lol I know what you mean. Also the saying is true, "the rich get richer". We already have seen this happen on steemit with people who have YouTube channels with tens of thousands of followers that come and post here and get between 500-2K per post. I mean some of it deserved since they are helping steemit grow with new members coming to the site. However of them are mid size YouTubers who already have crappy videos for the most part. Crappy videos as in their content was good in the beginning and still wil psot something interesting one in while, but 90% of their posts aren't even giving any advice. Rather they are basically bragging about how much money and great their life if cause they hit big on bitcoin and think just because they have a nice cushion of money from btc that people are interested in videos they make of them going to buy food. They post videos of themselves going grocery shopping from crying out loud WTF . What is more pathetic is people watch these 20 min vlogs and upvote it. I guess you know if you made it if you can post a video on here eating cereal and nothing else and get 200 dollars for doing that shit. lol

I hear you. =) What is really surprising is that people support that. It is just weird. I don't understand that. It is true that humanity deserves everything that's happening to it - we are pretty much the cause of it. =)

Buy let's end this here. You're oppressed. I'm oppressed. The world is stupid. What can you do? Be a better, hard working person.
