Well... that all depends on how many people voted before you and your voting power at the time, if many people voted on the post already your vote will dramatically increase the post value.

This is no longer true. With the new linear reward curve (can it be called a curve anymore, since it's a straight line?), you'll give the same amount to an author regardless of how many people voted before you.
