Steemit Turns Strangers into Friends

in #steemit7 years ago

When I joined Steemit about 3 months back, I did it initially to make money and then to have a medium to express myself and make some great friends. Little did I know that I’d end up making some nice friends for real. I mean, I did have the intention to make virtual friends but didn’t really believe I’d be meeting great people from my own country on Steemit and that I’d really enjoy their company too. However, Steemit proved me wrong and did something amazing for me.

About a month back, I came across Ghulam Mujtaba’s (@ghulammujtaba) blog on Steemit and saw that a Pakistani was doing some good work here. Through him, I got in touch with @beingnaveed and we clicked instantly. Soon enough, we became virtual friends and that sparked the idea of us actually having a meet-up and getting to know each other for real and helping each other grow on Steemit. @ghulammujtaba has introduced many of his friends to Steemit so more people went on board with this idea so @muhammadyasir, @ghulammujtaba, @beingnaveed, @zaidi, @aymen.mazhar, @writerbro, @komalirfan and @danieldavid were supposed to meet this Friday.

Since I have never really had actual interactions with people I met online, I was a little apprehensive and nervous, and oh-so-excited at the same time. I wasn’t in talks with all of the people I just mentioned but the two I was in touch seemed really great so I was eager to meet them.

Although my husband @muhammadyasir and I were supposed to meet the group but due to certain glitches, only I could attend the meet-up. So on Friday, I went along with Faateh (my son) to meet these guys. My son wasn’t supposed to accompany me since he had a playdate but that playdate got cancelled last minute so he tagged along with me.

@ghulammujtaba, @beingnaveed, @zaidi, @komalirfan and @danieldavid showed up and from the minute we guys got together to the minute we departed, we had a really good time. From venturing on Steemit to growing on the platform to believing in oneself to nurturing a burning desire for your ultimate goal to spreading Steemit far and wide in Pakistan, we talked about it all and had a really good time.

The best part about the meetup was that all these people were extremely respectful and open to ideas- something which is rare here but I was so pleased to see that there are so many amazing people out there which I would only find if I met more people. Today, I did and had a fantastic time.

So now almost all of us are in touch with each other and have decided to help each other grow individually and as a community on Steemit and even otherwise because we strongly believe that helping each other out is a great way to succeed and achieve whatever we aspire to have in our lives.

Just because of Steemit, some great people got to meet and know each other so yeah, now I believe that you can find actual friends from online forums too.  Here are the photos from our meetup yesterday. @komalirfan and @danieldavid had to leave early because of work commitments so they are missing in the selfies.

From left to right, @beingnaveed, @ghulammujtaba, @zaidi and @sharoonyasir and yes, it is Faateh in the middle.

We plan to have regular meetups in the future too; hope we stick to this commitment 

Much love,
Sharoon.

Sharoon you're a wonderful writer! I'm surprised we didn't get acquainted sooner. I would love to meet you and discuss the new purpose of our lives - steem. Haha I'm officially hooked and I'm sure that's the case for quite a lot of us. Your post is wonderful and so is Faateh ❤️

It'll be a steady journey and the best part is to meet people who make things worth your while. I'm glad you're here. ❤️❤️

Hey, thank you Ayemn. You are a brilliant writer yourself and I'm sure a great person too :) Would have loved to meet you but I'm sure there will be a next time. Well, for me Steemit isn't the purpose of my life but I did get what you mean haha. I am hooked too but since I have to make sure my son doesn't use the screen much and I have work too so I have to limit my use of Steemit hayee. And I love the tiny black hearts so whoever uses it automatically comes into my 'lovely people' category. <3

Ah well you know what I mean ;)
Haha for sure, next time!!

So nice that you had a great meetup. Nice to find new friends.

Yes I am so happy tooo :) It went great.

Way to use this platform to its potential!

Yes and the platform is pretty amazing. Thanks for stopping by :)

good story dear friend
very good to see
and happy for you all
thank you for sharing

It was a wonderful evening spent with people who have some amazing ideas and thoughts in their minds.. that urge to do so much - is itself at times more valuable than the action!

You're a wonderful writer, just read your blogs.. And Faateh is such a cute little kid MA! Unlike other kids, he had no problems with all the 'talk' we were having for so long! :O

Steemit is already making some positive impact on our lives, sounds great, doesn't it?

It was a wonderful evening for me too. Faateh is so amazing but that day he was more supportive and nicer than usual. He is usually not that quiet but he was so supportive of me. I had a little prep talk with him on our way to Chaaye khana and asked him to be nicer than usual today and he obliged. He is the light of my life. lol, i get mushy when it comes to him. Steemit is definitely impacting us positively. And I have to tell you how nice you are. I didn't catch your name correctly the first time on Friday and referred to you as Bilal twice I think and not once did you correct. Such a gentleman you are :D

Hain? Seriously? No that wasn't about gentleness, I just didn't notice :P

Haha so you weren't totally present then :P

Bilal/Fahad do sound same to some extent, may be that's why :P

Lol seriously?!!!?

Hahaha! :P
