Every post published to Steemit is voted upon by users,These votes help other users identify content that is worth their limited attention and bring significant value to the platform.Steemit recognize that sifting through the abundance of new submissions is work that deserves to be rewarded.
Up voting on Posts
Users with vesting STEEM have the ability to vote on posts.Voting power is rate limited and decay by up to %5 every time a vote is cast, Voting power is regenerates to 100% over 24 hours.Your ability to impact the payouts a post receives is based upon your current voting power times the total vesting STEEM and is known as STEEM power.
To maximize total STEEM power applied to posts,user should vote on at least 20 posts per day. Voting on more than 20 posts per day has exponentially decreasing influence on total STEEM power used.
How it Works
Every time a post gets paid 50% of the payout is directed towards those who contributed the most to increasing the post payout.To maximize your potential payout for voting you should follow these simple rules/
1-Only vote the post you believe other will also vote for.
2-Don't vote on content that is already popular.
3-vote as early as possible after the content is posted.
4-Acquire as much vesting STEEM power as possible.
The less STEEM power you have the more important it is for you focus your vote on few good posts rather than spreading your vote thin.In particular , user with small amount of vesting STEEM should:
1-vote on content other haven't voted for,To maximize the percentage increasing in voting.
2-vote on fewer posts, The more you vote the more diluted you The STEEM power.
Challenges with Rewarding Voting
If Steemit simply paid people for voting then Tech-savy individuals would simply vote for evry thing to maximize their earning.This type of behavior would add no new information or no new creative content and therefore no value to the platform.The reward algorithm must be designed to reward information while preventing gaming and automation.

i always do upvote but i noticed that the last 24hrs my steem power reduced in grow ,i used to get about 1% a day without any reward ! now im getting about 0.70 %. might be due to steem price, fuck knows?
either way im still upvoting .
many many factors are involved but the major one are as i have described in above post.
Why not just upvoting the stuff you like instead of the things you think others like.. This is not really helping Steemit to become more diverse. Or is everybody only here for the money?
Yes i have described above that first cost vote for the content you like much not others or the stuff which is creative mind and helpful and new for steemit paltform.
Thank you for providing a little bit of insight into the steem machine. This is very helpful for people like me just getting started. I will say the payout aspect is definitely what originally brought me here but the longer I am here the more I am finding that interests me, great articles and stories, beautiful pictures and interesting people. It's actually a pretty cool community.

Yes i have no idea like you but today morning i search for curation rewards and there i read the basics of the upvote, Steem power and post contribution rewards. so i get more knowledge and as day by day i am getting some useful tips so i am sure Steemit will be the great platform for only those who love to share some thing new and creative mind content.

You can see your voting power by using steemd and search for "Voting power" https://steemd.com/@lukestokes
As for your Steem Power going up, that's because when you power up, you actually have "VESTS" which are like vested shares in Steem. You can rewarded a portion of the newly minted Steem as Steem Power in proportion of how many VESTS you have (that proportion changes over time as you can see here: https://steemd.com/distribution 1M VESTS is currently 247 Steem).
The chat is a great way to learn more, but also read the White Paper if you really want to dig in deep. Its confusing stuff, but very interesting. Let me know if you have any questions I can help with.
Oh, and you may also want to note that if you vote within 30 minutes, a portion of your curation reward goes to the author. For example, at minute 15, half goes to the author, half goes to you. Ideally, you want to find great content that is 30 minutes old or more.

I don't think this is correct unless they recently changed this, last I heard it took 5 days for your voting power to go from 0% to 100% without voting in between.
I will search for it again if any new changed has been made i will share it please if you get the info must share it.

The five day regen time isn't even the most important part. The most important part is that if you vote within the first 30 minutes some of your curation reward goes to the author.
