Attention Indonesia - Steemit & cryptocurrency training day coming soon!
In the Ubud area of Bali I will be hosting a full day of Steemit training with the intention of:
- giving a basic knowledge of cryptocurrency
- helping people get started with their Steemit accounts
- giving them the ability to make the most out of this & other related platforms.
Topics to be covered:
- The age of cryptocurrency & decentralisation
- Setting up your Bitcoin wallet
- Understanding Steemit - Steem, Steem Dollars & Steem Power
- Optimising your posts
- How to trade cryptocurrency
- The basics of Burst mining & asset exchange
Who am I?
I am a 40-year-old film-maker with no fixed address, no bank account and no faith in our current economic system. I travel with my partner and two young children.
I started using Steemit in Aug 2016, four months after its inception and am currently ranked at #147, based on reputation. I have made around $2000 worth of Steem through my own account and through helping others with theirs. And I did this with no investment of any kind other than the hours spent at my computer.
With no prior knowledge of this platform or even cryptocurrency, a fair amount of time was dedicated to Steemit in my first month while the learning curve was still steep, and then around an hour or two a day after this. Now I have an automated upvoting system in place on multiple accounts, I am trading cryptocurrencies and currently mastering Burst mining and asset exchange.
In short I have developed a simple system for creating a steady income which does not involve the use of a bank account and I would like to share it now with as many people as possible here in Bali.
For those of you who don’t already know...
What is Steemit?
With a similar architecture to Reddit, it is a social media site for posting, commenting & upvoting, but unlike other social media sites, Steemit pays you for your content and for your 'thumbs up' on other people’s content, known here as upvotes. You can also get paid for your comments in response to posts and you can get paid by curating the work of others.
So if a post which you have upvoted, resteemed or recommended to a curation community makes money, you get a percentage of that money.
An upvote is essentially a payment in Steem representative of your total amount of Steem. So if you don't have much, your vote isn't worth much.
Fish terminology
If you are a newcomer whose vote isn't worth much yet, you are known as a Minnow.
Whales on the other hand have lots of Steem, so if you manage to land an upvote from one of them, the amount of Steem they are giving you with their upvote is substantially more.
Dolphins are the group somewhere in the middle. Which is where I like to imagine I am at :)
Whilst no one wants to be a Minnow for long, there is currently a notable advantage to being a newcomer here with curation guilds designed specifically to help the whales & dolphins find minnows to upvote. And the 'introduceyourself' tag, if used wisely can see you earning more in your first month than many dolphins are able to earn in their sixth month.
The reward system
There is no advertising on this site so we are rewarded in much the same way as a company might reward its shareholders with stock options. Only in this decentralised company, we the people are the shareholders.
The payment comes in the form of a cryptocurrency called Steem, which can be invested back into the platform (increasing your upvote rewards) or traded for Bitcoin and exchanged for cold hard cash.
This is a platform for forward-minded creatives, where for the first time we can share our work, our thoughts and even our daily lives with a community which rewards us for our commitment, making it different to any social media site before it.
Why is this day so important?
Cryptocurrency is the future. There is no question about that. And this is the year of Steemit, described a few weeks ago by Forbes as 'the fastest growing decentralised social media platform ever' ...so it is time to jump on board this train!
If you follow my instructions I guarantee that you will be able to create a passive daily income with very little time investment, just as it is for me now. An investment which unlike the fiat currencies you have in your banks, is much more likely to rise in value over the years.
One of the first things I did back in August was to set up a Bitcoin 'wallet' and put some money in there. Since then the value of that money has quadrupled because this is the number one cryptocurrency and the world is making a transition right now from paper money to digital money.
As a film-maker I see it as something similar to the transition from film cameras to digital cameras: It took a while to catch on and many were reluctant to let go of the old system, but in the end the new system became accepted by the mainstream and film cameras are now mostly just collectors items.
The venue - Taman Petanu
The event will be held in the poolside amphitheatre at the stunning Taman Petanu Eco Neighbourhood. Every picture in this post was taken at Taman Petanu. It is a very special place, dedicated to permaculture & sustainable living, and as such it is the perfect place to host a day like this.
You will need to bring a laptop with fully charged battery. And bring your chargers too for a lunch-time re-charge.
Lunch & refreshments will be available to buy.
There will be opportunity for open discussion and questions at the end of the day.
Please contact me directly if this is something you would be interested to attend.
Date to be confirmed.
This is a fantastic opportunity and initiative, wow! Congratulations and I really look forward to read more about the results of this gathering. to top it all, it is in Bali!!! Magnificent location... All for one and one for all! Namaste :)
Yes, we the Steemit musketeers must share what we know freely and with a positive intention. Thanks for your words. I look forward to promoting this locally and will hopefully fill that amphitheatre :)
Great :-)
Thank you my friend. Hope to fill this amphitheatre :)
Good luck! I think indonesians are one of the most cryptocurrency friendly people and based in what I've seen at glance in the #introduceyourself posts they are in top 3 registered users here in Steemit. I also noticed that #aceh is in top 30 tag topics everyday for the last 2-3 months. Congratulations and good luck again!
I must say I didn't know that. But it doesn't surprise me. I have met many indonesians who seem interested to learn this. And I look forward to sharing what I have learned. Many thanks for your comment :)
Hi, @steevc also noticed and posted it today: TIL: Aceh is big on Steemit. But an acehnese replyed warning that Aceh is not Indonesia. Thanks and good luck again!
Bali have some beautifull place i like it. :)
Yes, it is a very beautiful island :)
I like some place look like sanur beach and kute beach : )
Yes, we go to Sanur regularly. It has good beaches for children with shallow water and waves that don't hit the shore line too hard :) My 2 year old freaks out if the waves are too big! Thanks for the comment.
Good luck for your project in Bali! :)
Many thanks :)
Nice work, Sam ! I believe your training day will success.
Thanks. I am really looking forward to sharing this knowledge :)
I wish I were there in Bali! But I'm in Hungary, very far away! Would you make a video conference there?
I will be filming the day and sharing it on Youtube, via Steemit of course :)
Though we could potentially do a live stream too.
Hope you make it back to Bali soon!
Thank you very much!
Congratulations, I'll be there. I see my time
Many thanks... and great news that you are able to attend! I will contact you directly when we have a date.
Wish you a successful and happy event.
Thanks very much. Appreciate the comment :)
You're welcome
Great, I've been to Ubud. Have fun!
It's a pretty cool place Ubud. Though my personal feeling is that the surrounding areas are more pleasant. Less tourists. And this is where the event will be held. Just south of Ubud :) Thanks for your comment.
I was north of Ubud in a secluded place and told a woman to come back and try to help her to sell her products on the net. She has a few kids and no husband and I would like to do something with you to get her connencted. I don't have money for passport and travel otherwise I would do it myself.
Can you imagine to go there and help her to set up peerhub?
Wow. What a great story. I would very much like to help her. My problem is time. I wonder if she would be able to come to me? South of Ubud.
I don't think that's possible. I have a friend who lives in Bali and will try to contact him.
