Is this whole social network only relying on GREED?

As a new user after spending a few hours here, i find myself rather confused. I have been scrolling and scrolling and reading and reading, and i simply CAN'T find anything worth engagement, everyone seems to be talking about, MONEY, crypto, blockchain, making money, and something weird called actifit, and STEEMIT, STEEMIT, STEEMIT, why is everyone talking about the social network ITSELF, rather than being social? What am I missing here? where is the SOCIAL? how do i find likeminded people? how do i meet new people?
THE WHOLE DAMN TRENDING PAGE is FULL OF nothing but BLOCKCHAIN JARGON. not a single post about anything remotely ORDINARY PEOPLE STUFF, ABOUT LIFE< ABOUT PEOPLE?
Can someone help ? i have a sneaking suspicion i am missing something
