This is total history for sure. No DPOS system is ever going to be the same moving forward from this. They will all make changes to ensure that nothing like this can happen to them in the future. At least as much as they are able to.

There is a lot of talk about regaining from both sides, there is no talk about what to do when regained. What to do to fix the issue'(s). No talk of a change to how witnesses are selected by the witnesses nor by Justin Sun, only by the bystanders. I have seen several comments of the need to change the system, I my self have made suggestions, but the overwhelming response prior to the Sun'ified witness block was that no one person could control who the top 20 witnesses were. As we have seen they were wrong in that assumption.

There have been several users comments on how to fix the down vote issue, they have been ignored as not an issue, until larger accounts started getting down voted. Yet still all suggestions to fix a broken down vote system is ignored.

There have been parties other than steemit.inc that have wanted to make changes upgrades to the api that runs the chain, all being ignored or told to wait til after SMT's. There is no system that does not go through steemit for other development teams to make changes to the code.

What this has shown the users, the developers, the investors, is that there are things that need to be fixed, that have been ignored for to long, and ideas of fixing them should be taken as a priority, especially the witness selection system.

Thank you sir for voicing this out for us who feel and think the same in regards of this drama in steem and also as a whole. I'm agree with you with all the points you eloquently put on this post. Hopefully all of us learn from this "chaos" and bring the better change for the greater good of all. cc; @dcooperation @freedompoint

I saw this post yesterday and I wanted to comment but I ran outta RC.

Very valid and in-depth points here. And I can see this post didn't get the engagement it deserves because some of the witnesses and community folks don't like the fact that they were also wrong.

I listened to the meeting and all I saw was a businessman who just wanted to protect the stake he bought, without necessarily trying to control governance.

I think the sooner we start putting in efforts towards understanding and accepting new people on this chain, the less hostile the community would be. It's like you said, we don't need any more tribalistic us-versus-them squabbles, and condemnation of those who hold different perspectives than ourselves.

It's been a while Rok. Good to be back on here.
And hey, follow me this time. For real though.

I’ve been kinda dumbfounded by how little rewards this got, in spite of it getting more resteems than almost anything I’ve ever posted here. Then again, I dunno if sometimes it’s just the luck of the draw. Meanwhile, I just posted something short & sweet on coronavirus And it got $11 in half an hour. I guess that just proves the point: better not to worry about rewards and just keep steeming on, trusting it’ll all even out eventually.

bringing light to the nature of Steem's governance models and foundational philosophies & values of the community.

DPOS is an oligarchical stucture.
It will always lead topowerplays of this sort.

The witnesses were naive to start to this action. Justin reacted. (overreacted imo)

As long as DPOS is the system, is will be a continual recycling of the same dynamics.
It's inevitable. Unfortunately.

I've been saying this for years, with replies of 'code is law' or 'if you don't like it, leave', etc.
For steem to function as a social media platform that is decentralized and meritocratic , the foundations need to be altered.
A good start is to make it more 'human' (a capthca system to upvote or downvote for example)

As Einstein said, 'the definition of insanity is....'

A very thorough and in depth write up thus far. Thanks for sharing on both sides of the perspectives. This may be a case where a public entity suddenly get privatized by a single entity. While the single entity seeks to control, but it fails when the public retaliate back by voting against the action.

It’s certainly worrying when you see there can be a circumstances where witnesses can come together and start applying restriction or annihilation measure on someone (account). But that’s also because of the politics within the community that majority favors against the movement taken by Sun. So I would say, there’s still a certain level of democracy there and freedom.

Looking forward that Steem community can really sit down with Sun and get this straighten up.

Personally, I'm optimistic.

Sure, it's possible that Sun has lied through his teeth. Though I have enough trust in his own self-interest that he'll deliver upon his promises and work cooperatively to sort things out as much as possible to create outcomes that work for the most people possible here...

Great and very well pondered post about this important issue my friend!! :)

Now I can't help but ReSteem it for my handful of follow... erm... nah! forget it! I don't have followers anymore. At least not alive. LoL

ReSteemed!!

The Steem blockchain is currently being attacked by a central authority in order to take control of the witnesses. If you are not managing your witness votes, please consider setting @berniesanders as your witness voting proxy by clicking here to help restore the decentralization of Steem.

After considering voting for BS I decided to whip myself with nettles instead....
