Are you a fan of books? Want to find a place where you can spend time enjoying books and closer to your favorite author? If so, then Edinburgh could be the answer. What makes Edinburgh a dream city for the nerd? Here, five reasons.

1. Named as a City of Literature, Edinburgh will be a cool place to tour while exploring the literature.

Cities usually have a certain nickname. It's the same with Edinburgh. The Scottish capital is known as the City of Literature. Not just any mention of tablets. The City of Literature is the official title given by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to Edinburgh in 2004.

Edinburgh became the first city in the world to be awarded the City of Letters. Not only because it has a strong literary heritage, Edinburgh is also actively promoting a variety of interesting literary activities to follow. This is the reason why Edinburgh is considered worthy of the title of the City of Letters.

2. Welcome to the home of the legendary writers!

Edinburgh will not be the City of Literature without any of the great writers in it. In this city, J.K. Rowling lives and writes most of Harry Potter's novel series. The Elephant House Cafe in Edinburgh is now even popular because it became one of the earliest places of J.K. Rowling built her wizarding world.

In addition, Edinburgh is also the birthplace of a row of renowned authors Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (author of Sherlock Holmes), Sir Walter Scott (author Ivanhoe) to Robert Louis Stevenson (author Jekyll and Hide). The author of Inspector Rebus detective novel series Ian Rankin also lives in Edinburgh and uses the city as a backdrop for most of his novels.

3. Find your favorite quotes along the way

The Royal Mile Road in the Canongate district presents the sensation of travel as in the fictional world. During this walk, you will be fascinated by the various quotes by writers who adorn the windows of restaurants, museums, and libraries. This quote is designed with a winter theme. As the evening begins to come, the quotes will be enhanced by the lights.

There are 20 excerpts from Robert Louis Stevenson, George Bannatyne, Robert Henryson, Yann Martel, Tobias Smollet and others who adorned along the path of The Royal Mile. It took 45 minutes on foot to explore all the quotes. Unfortunately, the beauty of these quotes can only be enjoyed until March.

4. Wander around the city row of bookstores

Traveling is not just about culinary hunting or fashion. The book was no less exciting to be hunted. There is nothing wrong to explore bookstores while in Edinburgh. Edinburgh has over 50 unique concept bookstores guaranteed to make you feel at home for long.

The Old Town Bookshop is one of Edinburgh's famous bookstores. The bookstore is located on Victoria Street has been providing a collection of rare books since 1978.

No less interesting, there is a bookstore Armchair Books in West Port. In harmony with the collection of old school books, the narrow passages of this bookstore give the ancient atmosphere. Each book on the Armchair Books shelf is arranged alphabetically to make it easier for you to find the book you are looking for.

5. Full Year Book Event

Each year Edinburgh has a bunch of activities related to the world of books. One of them is The Edinburgh International Book Festival. Started since 1983, this festival is the largest book festival in the world. The festival is usually held for approximately two weeks in August at Charlotte Square Gardens. There are 800 writers from around the world presented at this festival. Hayo, who knows you can meet your favorite author here?

Edinburgh also regularly commemorates the birthday of Robert Louis Stevenson who falls on 13 November. For a week, the city held a series of events related to the 1850-born author. There are activities provided for you who want to explore places related to Robert Louis Stevenson and his works in the Colinton area.

Similarly, climbers who love mountains or divers who love the sea. Edinburgh certainly can also be a place that makes book maniacs fall in love. How? Interested in visiting Edinburgh?
