Steemit Anonymity: How You Can Be Busted
I just felt like writing this article to warn those who think they can maintain absolute anonymity here and thus engage in all sorts of criminal activities. **You are never completely anonymous!** One of your activity here can lead to chain of events that can be used to blow your cover.
There are several ways you can be tracked and I want to point to few of them in this article. The essence is not to scare any genuine and honest steemit member but to warn mischief makers and those using their little knowledge of computing to defraud others.
Your Email was used most likely when you registered in this platform unless you used the AnonSteem method to register your account. Even if you did, there are still many more ways your identity can be tracked using that.
Chat Platforms
The Chatting platforms like SteemChat and Discord are still places where your interaction with others can reveal your true identity. Your real you can be revealed without you knowing it while you interact with others. Remember that these activities are all logged so the day or reckoning will shock you on how much about you, that you have unknowingly revealed to others through your interaction.

Steem/SBD Transactions
Well you may have either transferred steem or steem dollar from steemit to any of the crypto exchanges or vise versa. These transactions can be traced from the blockchain to the account owner in the exchanges and you can be busted.
Your IP
Your ip or internet protocol are some string of numbers that show where your internet is coming from. It carries information such as the internet service provider (ISP), your location and possibly your identity. Even if you are browsing through some secure decentralized internet like the Tor network, you may still not be completely anonymous.
Your Posts
I do not need to tell you how much your post can define you unwittingly. So long as you are a blogger here and you post articles and comments, you are telling your story often in an obscure way which only experts can decipher. That can lead to who you are.
Sharing of Files and Downloading
By sharing files such as uploading and downloading, you are giving out your IP address which can be used in turn to track you.
I will stop here for today. This is not an exhusted list of how your cover can be blown. There are still many more I will leave you to search up and discover for yourself. To be forewarned is to be fore armed.
Stop every form of criminal activity in steemit now!
Implication
I do not need to also explain this to you or do I? Shun any act of fraud or cheating you are currently engage in and behave well as a good citizen of the world and you are safe.
If you otherwise go about cheating people and doing all manner of evil including creating multiple accounts to defraud people, just know that your days are numbered. A word is enough for the wise.
Conclusion
I wish every genuine steemean a happy steeming. So long as you come here in all sincerity to engage the community and help the community to grow, in no distant time though it might take a while, you will be where you dream to be. It all takes some little patience like with every other investment.
If someone defrauds you, do the community a favour by reporting. This serves many purposes. It will alert other community members and reduces more potential victim especially if it has to do with a serial fraudster.
Secondly, security experts here can engage such a character with the purpose of tracking him/her down.

Well I think that if you really want to be anonymous here, you can! Where are plenty of ways to do that, for example using a tor network, fake email etc.
But as somebody said, if you don't have anything to hide, so you don't need to :)
In your mind you will be anonymous but that is far from reality.
If you know how technology works that is not so far from a reality, trust me ;)
You might be able to... but as soon as you start blogging about something personal or even mentioning anything private in a comment you're step by step loosing anonymity. In the end this kind of negates the real idea of Steemit, don't you think? Unless you really just want to be an invisible curator.
Well it depends on how clever you are doing this, my point here is that everything you want to do is possible, all other details are only details :)
