Steem tools and tips I wish I knew when I was just getting started

Steemit is an amazing platform which gives content creators a place to share their passions and earn an income from their writing, videos or music. However, there is an overwhelming amount of information to learn. I've been posting almost every day on Steemit for nearly a year and over that time, I've picked up lots of tips and tricks and learned about a lot of tools that have made being a Steemian easier and more profitable.

I few days ago @superherogamesq asked if I had any tips, which inspired me to put this list together. These are the tools and tips that I wish I knew when I first started and hopefully they're helpful for new Steemians who are just getting started now.

Curie

Until my posts started getting the attention of @curie, I was making just a few cents for each of my posts. They’re a curation group dedicated to finding the best content creators on Steemit and it rewards them with highly upvoted posts. The first time I got noticed by Curie, it felt like I won the lottery! There are a few rules to learn about how Curie operates and what content they don’t curate, but as long as you’re putting out regular, quality, original content you should eventually get noticed and rewarded.

Curie is what originally motivated me to start posting every day and really got me invested in this platform. So I want to give a HUGE thank you to everyone involved with the Curie project. You’re doing some fantastic work to make Steemit a better platform.

Steemworld

This has become one of the best arrows in my Steemit quiver. Steemworld collects all the most relevant information about your account and collects it in an easy-to-follow format. Pretty much any data you want to know about your account, delegations, curation/author rewards, comments and more is all collected here.

Qurator

@qurator is a group curation project that upvotes your content once every day. While there is a 4 SBD entry fee, that qualifies you for lifetime upvotes from Qurator. By upvoting their posts and/or delegating SP to Qurator, you can climb the ranks to higher tiers within Qurator and receive higher upvotes depending on what tier you’re on. Qurator has content guidelines in order to join, which keeps the quality high in the posts they’re curating.

Busy.org

As an alternative to posting through Steemit, you can post exactly the same way through Busy.org. All your Steemit account information is exactly the same as it is on Steemit, but it offers a few different tools you can use to have greater control over your posts. In addition, using the ‘busy’ tag will give you a bonus upvote from the busy voting bot.

Minnowbooster & Smartsteem

Getting your content upvoted is vital to getting it discovered. Getting those eyeballs is a challenge, so hitting the hot and trending pages within each tag can really help you get your posts noticed by more viewers. Minnow booster and SmartSteem both operate system that allow you to buy guaranteed profitable upvotes from their networks. Each have different rules and guidelines, but they’re a great way to get your posts in front of more potential future followers.

SteemBotTracker

In addition to vote buying, you can also bid for votes using bid bots. There’s a ton of them out there and they each have different rules and features. SteemBidBotTracker collects all of the different bid bots and lets you know everything you need to make some informed decisions about where to potentially bid for some upvotes, and you can submit bids to any of the bid bots right from the site.

Blocktrades

If you need to convert your Steem or Steem Dollars to another cryptocurrency, Blocktrades is the best way I’ve found to do it. Its built right into Steemit, so you simply need to navigate to the Steem or Steem Dollars sections of your wallet and select ‘sell’. You’ll be taken over to Blocktrades and they walk you through the process of selling your Steem or SBD for other cryptocurrencies that can be sent to any wallet or exchange of your choice.

General Tips & Tricks

Comment!

Leaving thoughtful comments on posts by other Steemians is a great way to network. You'll find people with similar interests and gain new followers as the mutual benefits of working together help grow your channel.

Be consistent

Its hard to follow someone who posts irregularly. If possible, its best to post around the same time so your followers know when to expect new content from you.

Post once a day

Putting all of your effort into a single great article or video is better than posting a bunch of smaller, less thoughtful posts. Quality over quantity is what will help you grow.

Formating, spelling and grammar

If your posts are full of spelling errors, grammatical issues or awkward formatting, it makes your content much harder to follow. Spend a little time proofreading and making sure your post is nicely formatted in an easy-to-follow style.

Sourcing and plagarism

If you're using any content you didn't create, you at least need to source it properly with links to where you found the content. Don't just repost or link to articles or videos you find around the web, or you'll draw the ire of the dreaded Cheetah and other bots that scan for plagarism.

In conclusion

I hope these tools and tips can make it a bit easier for new Steemians to get a good start on this platform. We all started with zero followers and no content, so focus on creating quality, original content and the followers will come. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your tips for newbies @retro-room.

I've been on this platform for almost 3 months and was consistent for the most part until two weeks ago when life got in the way.

I'm now playing this dreaded game of catch-up and given the sheer number of quality posts in my subscription box that await me, this looks like an uphill battle so your post will serve as a reminder not to be sidetracked for too long.

Upvoted and resteemed.

Sorry @lesateliersphv that life got in the way. I relate to your issue. I was going full throttle also, when circumstances interrupted my momentum a week and a half ago. In the long run, it won't make a difference.
Good luck to you.

Thanks @agmoore. It’s encouragement like yours that keep me going. Good luck to you too.

Very useful! I learned some new things like about @curie!

I keep reading about plagiarism. It's beyond me that bloggers think it won't be noticed. I do understand the desperation that may lead to stealing someone's work, but really, it's not necessary. Even if you don't have an original thought in your head, just do some research and summarize other people's ideas. If you credit the source, that's totally legitimate. And sourced material is more trusted than a free flowing essay (like this comment).

As for bots and voting services--it's probably the way to get power fast, but I'm not ready for that, not yet anyway. I don't know if I will be. I like reading posts, writing for the community, receiving comments. Even when I get a lot of upvotes, I'm always a little disappointed when I don't get feedback.

This is a very comprehensive rundown. I'll have to refer to it in the future, when I feel a little more comfortable in the Steem environment. Maybe I can use some of the tips then. Thanks for them.

Yet again, @retro-room manages to beat me to the punch with a topic I'd been considering. Thanks a lot, pal. Have an upvote for your troubles. ;)

Nice post! Definitely one I’ll be coming back to for further clarification. I guess the easiest way to find it again would just be... to resteem! 😜
Thanks, Retro!
