Almost Like Nes
In terms of graphics, this is a surprise . The sprites are very beautiful, very large and well detailed for the Game Boy .
The sets are also pretty well filled in all and a little trick has been found by the developers in order to not overload the console's screen.
Indeed , the characters (Kirby as enemies ) and the objects are " dark " while the decorations are clear .
So no risk of overcharging the screen .
In terms of animation, all is well orchestrated and Kirby has several quite funny faces , such as those between each world.
The boss also benefit from a pleasant modeling and we get to see right away what they are supposed to represent.
The only downside reside in some action slowdowns from time to time.
Kirby unleashed
While in most platform games we kill enemies by jumping on them, here will be completely ineffective .
To get rid of your opponents , you have to suck'em up with the B button and spit them with the same button.
This terribly simple principle gives strength to Kirby's Dream Land .
As said above , the jumps will be used to cross the holes but in case of bad fall do not panic .
By pressing the directional pad up, Kirby inflates air and can fly , which will be quite useful in places.
"During your quest you will receive three Superpower : the spicy dish that makes balls of fire , the strange fruit that allows Kirby to stay inflated even if he spits, and finally the microphone that destroys all enemies present on the screen."
Difficulty issues ?
Let's talk about what is both the strength and weakness of the game...the difficulty.
Indeed, the game will offer a more limited challenge, Nintendo has done everything to make the game accessible to all audiences.
Younger players will enjoy while older find this frustrating lack of challenge.
But the weak point of Kirby is undoubtedly its lifetime. Only five levels await you and won't be offerring no trap or other vicious enemies as it was the case in Mario Land.
"Bosses are also terribly simple."
Finally for those who are too frustrated by the longevity of the game, know that there is a second quest in which the enemies are faster.
Conclusion
Despite its short life, Kirby's Dream Land became a hit on Gameboy .
The reason? A very cute and attaching character , sumptuous graphics for a mobile game at the time and highly successful music.
Add to that innovative gameplay and you'll understand why the game was very successful at the time of its release. Small detail : Kirby is White in this game (not pink) ^^
