Do I need to buy crypto steem to be relevant?

in #steemit7 years ago

Newb Q: So if don't invest in steem power, it is going to be a slow road for someone who knows nobody?

Also these follow promote groups like steemfollow are they bots or legit? They ask for our private key, is that wrong?

It's probably a good time to buy some crypto anyway, as it took a big dive.

What is your experience?

My advice is try your best to follow as many community figures as possible. @sndbox and @curie are good shouts, and they’ll flag more people to follow too.

I found you by looking through the electronicmusic tag, and there are plenty of good people in there.

Steempower is really useful, as you’re going to want to give back to people you like. I can give you a nice $0.08 or so, but my early days were spent amounting to nothing when I did that.

There’s loads about the mechanics to get under. Like self upvoting, but the impact of doing it before/after 30 minutes etc etc!

Hey @fourfourfun thanks for the info. I'd definitely like to know more about the 30 min thing.

Right. Now I am at an actual keyboard.

When you get a reward on the post, there is a reward ratio. 75% goes to you, 25% goes to the contributors on the post.

This ratio can be affected by the first 30 minutes. Vote on yourself immediately, the ration becomes 100% to you, and that decreases towards the default over that 30 minute window.

My personal way of doing things is that I upvote my post after 30 minutes. I don't have huge power, so it's not a massive thing. One thing I struggle with here is the nature of self upvoting - some/a-lot of people are fine with this, others I have seen to be more judgemental. It's not cut and paste. Certainly, if you're controlling $$$ with your upvotes, it starts to get more and more frowned upon.

I've kind of "got over it" personally, and I just see it all as adding to a pot which helps me nurture the electronic music people on here.

EDIT:

Also, as a newbie, go check out @welcoming and look up people doing introduction posts. Introducing yourself is a bit of a thing on here, and usually helps kick you off on your journey.

hi @fourfourfun that is really good info! Thanks for taking the time to let me know!

It’s a bit to take in at first! It took me, like, a month to get under the skin of this place.

I think this video I found on YouTube does a great job of answering this question. At least when I first started it answered this question for me.

Hi @acousticstevo this looks interesting. I'm going to watch this as soon as I get back to my desk!
