Is it really a good idea to "INTRODUCE YOURSELF" to Steemers?

I've been using Steemit for a couple of days now and I have seen many popular "Introduce Yourself" posts. I haven't done one and find myself thinking if its actually a good idea. I know that trust is involved in building a community, its recommend to start knowing each others on top of that some of us publish much more personal information on other social media platforms ( I stopped doing that months ago ).

For now, I can tell you I'm a college student from Puerto Rico and will be showing you guys nice pictures of places to see and visit if you ever find yourself in the island.

I will be staying active on Steemit for the long ride ahead and I hope you all do to! Have a good one.

It is really just a form of begging for money at this point. My introduction wasn't about me but more about joining the community. I also only got 1 reply if I do remember correctly. Good luck and Ill look forward to those pictures!

I disagree with @ungratefulchump I mean seriously a name like that? :D In all seriousness though #introduceyourself is a rite of passage. It's your one chance at mass visibility. If you do a great job you may walk away with buckets full of cash. But at the least you will find several people and bots who can affirm just how cool you are.

Some of these will follow you and this is how communities are formed.
Now does this mean that the only way to be noticed is by posting there?

No not really. In fact the bulk of my funds, comes from finding interesting content and providing my commentary on it. I make more money, more consistently through commentary , than I do via blogging. Several others do as well.

The truth is that if you just treat this place like reddit and ignore the dollar signs completely, you will find happiness here and every once in awhile you will peek in your wallet to find some extra money. It's nice when it happens.
