[BUG] [Steem-Team] Post with no votes but 111$ payout and no curation rewards!!!

in #steemit8 years ago

Howdy Steem-Team I recently discovered a bug,

I send my first post 4 weeks ago and today it was payout time. As I checked out the post I noticed that there were no more votes on it.

Checking the payout no curation rewards were payed.

All the payout goes to my wallet (lucky me).

I'm curious to know more about this but I suspect there is a logical explanation. In @georgedonnelly 's intro video he does talk a bit about curation rewards but I would have to re watch the video to see if it could explain this anomaly. I will keep an eye on this post to see if someone has a more informed reply. Thanks for drawing attention to it.

I have discovered this yesterday too.
The Votes do appear, when you look at https://steemstats.com/.
Could be a bug in the Web Frontend of Steemit.com.

This is due to how the Steem blockchain works. You may know that there are two payout periods, the first one is in about 24 hours after posting and the second is in 30 days. As mentioned in the white paper, Steem keeps all transactions from the first 30 days in memory, as opposed to on disk. This, coupled with a 3 second block time, makes this entire social-network-on-a-blockchain project possible. (Imagine one built on top of Bitcoin, where there is a 10 minute block time. This means you will not see anyone's votes, posts, comments, or other things until 10 minutes later. And as an aside, the network is very congested at the moment due to scaling issues and sometimes a transaction doesn't get included in a block for an hour or more.) So after the first 30 days, you will be payed out for the very last time and that post will be "expired." You will no longer get another payout from it, and no additional votes or comments can be added to it. So on Steemit, that post will just show 0 votes as it is easier to do so. It is actually possible to rerun the whole history of everything that has happened on the blockchain and figure out how many votes a post that is older than 30 days has, but this will require a lot of processing and storage. However, a tool from @jesta called steemdb does this. Look at https://steemdb.com/plastic/@plasticfuzzy/my-point-of-view-about-a-scary-trend-in-today-s-industry and you can see that your post had 45 votes. As for the $0 payout to the curators, it could be possible that a whale voted your post within a few minutes of your posting, in which case most of the curation rewards will go to you, followed by a lot of minnow votes. Anyway, hope this long explanation helps. =O

Thanks for the explanation.
