The 3 Key Points in Creating Value on Steemit (and Anywhere Else)

in #steemit8 years ago

We all would like to be the next person raking in $25,000 for our post, but how does creating value actually come about? In this post I will identify the three key points of valuable writing. It won’t be an easy method for making money, but it will make steemit a more interesting and diverse place, attracting more people in the process and making the steemit ecosystem more valuable in the long term.

1. Integrity

Integrity means being who you are. When it comes to posting, it means that when you write something, it has to come from the heart, that you don’t try to paint a picture that is prettier or that you think others will like more. Pandering to other people’s ideas of what is valuable has never turned someone into a star. Instead, we have to be genuine and forthcoming, honing our skill to present our personal perspective on whatever it is you are talking about. Your perspective is valuable, as it enriches other people’s experience.

2. Write what you know

Chances are that whatever it is you know most about is exactly the thing that you are most enthusiastic about. Enthusiasm is infectious, which helps others to see the thing you talk about in the way that you see it. If you are not so enthusiastic about the subject in question, it shines through in all the language you use to hide this simple fact: you don’t care so much about it. Writing what we know also has the added benefit of forcing us to write about the things we spend most of our time on. Imagine you can read something that condenses the knowledge of someone who has studied this subject for years or decades, in a fraction of the time, at virtually no cost. If the topic interests you at all, you’d do it without thinking about it.

3. Find your niche

For you to stand out among the crowd, you’d have to write about something that is unique or offer a unique perspective. This doesn’t necessarily mean that when you write about the history of footpedals in the biking industry in Western Europe you’ll get a lot of traction, because a niche is not an end-point, population 1, but rather a protected area where ideas and thoughts can be exchanged and shared, and in which biodiversity is promoted. In a similar way, your knowledge and ideas are only valuable when they offer a unique perspective (instead of just a rehashing of old ideas).

So to summarize: You have a unique set of experiences and knowledge that can be valuable information for others. Creating value consists in helping others access that information in such a way that they can learn and benefit from it. But the most important point is: Steemit will only become interesting when people start talking about the things they are interested in. Otherwise it will become a collection of posts about Steemit, along with girls selling their virtual bodies (nothing against people milking their assets, but people will lose interest pretty soon).

I really still wonder what to write about.
I had some "how-to" money related posts and a summary of my work as a caretaker for handicapped guys.
Both kind of went unnoticed which made me unsure about what to write. My job and earning money online are the things iam the most enthusiastic about.

Iam open for ideas and would wholeheartly welcome any suggestions.

I would be interested in a post regarding what you have learned about humans in general from working with handicapped guys and how this has changed your life for the better. I've checked your earlier post about that work, but it is mostly about what you hate, instead of what you love about it. My suggestion is to focus on the good parts and see how it relates to others.

Thank you so much. I probably should really do that instead of ranting about the things i don´t like.
I will publish something about it soon.

hi pieter. I would love to have some feedback on my newest article, since you really seemed genuinely interested. Hoping for new ideas what to write on about this topic :)

And of course post a picture of yourself wearing lipstick, especially if you are a guy.

I suppose following the above advise will get you there. here's hoping.

Hey @pieter, this is great stuff. I couldn't agree more with it. Actually, I use the same concept to get all my business ideas. I made this 3 part guide that handles finding your passion and niche, identifying your market, and validating your business ideas. You might find it useful!

Enjoy and keep the great content going!
