How to Increase The Value of Steem
One of the reasons that I feel that Steem has better quality submissions than most other social media platforms is that users receive rewards for posting. Therefore, in order to increase the value of the rewards, and thus the value of the content, we should work to increase the value of Steem. And that requires a look at the source of its value in the first place: the promoted section.
Right now, promoting a post pails in comparison to other advertising such as AdSense, Facebook ads, and so on. A user must actively click on a section dedicated entirely to ads, which very few people want to do. Plus, promoters have no control over the demographics of who views their post. Meanwhile, other platforms promote their ads directly in the feeds of the users and have in-depth knowledge of the users. But we can compete with them without sacrificing privacy and the experience through the fact that this website is user-owned.
This is obnoxious, but it works better than the promoted section.
When the users receive rewards from advertisers, it gives an incentive for the user to serve the advertiser. Steemit can have rewards for giving demographic information, showing more ads in their feed, and giving data on the quality of their ads. But this is just the beginning, as there exist many ways for the community to work to provide a good service in the way that Facebook could never provide.
