Plagiarism According to Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, Plagiarism is "the act of plagiarizing something; something that has been plagiarized", while plagiarize is "to copy another person's ideas, words or work and pretend that they are your own". Plagiarism can also be said to be the act of using someone else's thought or work without giving any recognition to the person,it is simply the act of stealing somebody piece of write up and use it as if you are the original writer. In some content it means "to kidnap". Plagiarism is not different from stealing because they involve carrying someone something without the person's knowledge.

Types of Plagiarism

Plagiarism can either be intentional or unintentional.

Intentional Plagiarism

The act of not giving adequate credit to the original writer or author of a work that was borrowed, bought, cut-copied-pastes is referred to intentional Plagiarism.

Unintentional plagiarism

This is a situation whereby you cited or paraphrased someone work or idea, but the paraphrase or citation is wrongly or improperly done.

Plagiarism of ideas
It is when a writer did not give recognition or credit to the original author of an idea or thought he/she copies from someone work.

Plagiarism of text/direct plagiarism/word-for-word plagiarism

Using a portion of text from someone else work without giving credit to its original author.

Mosaic plagiarism (patchwork plagiarism)

Mosaic plagiarism is using someone phrases, words or paragraphs of the original source, instead of writing it in your own words.

Self plagiarism

The act of borrowing or stealing paragraphs, phrases or words from your previously published articles or works for another publication is referred to as self plagiarism.

How to make sure your article is free of Plagiarism

I. Make note of the analysis sources you are working with

Take note of every material you used like articles and books, the sources of information you used such as magazine articles, websites, and videos should be considered. It enables the writer to quickly consider where he have noticed a word, detail or concept he likes to include in his article. Avoid copy and paste from your reference materials, rather use your words to pass your ideas. Make sure you have the massage of the reference source at the tip of your fingers.

ll. Paraphrasing or quoting your own references (and inserting your own ideas)

According to Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, quote is, "to repeat the exact words that another person has said or written". Use a quotation marks to write the repeated words in your own words and the original author should be recognized correctly.

III. Point out the original author in a citation section as well as in collection of references in the article

Whenever someone cited or paraphrased, in-text citation should be given which will describe the original author. This occasionally include year of publication and page number.

iv. Choose a plagiarism checker tool and check your article in it before submission

Select a Plagiarism checker tool which you can use to check your article with it before publication or submission. It helps other writers that will use your material for their work. Say NO to Plagiarism.
