What is Steemit.com?
Steemit is a social network and content rewards platform that turns the crowd into the beneficiary of the attention economy. It's about rewarding users with STEEM.

Steemit has redefined social media by building a living, breathed and growing the social economy; A community where users are rewarded for sharing their voice.

How does Steemit work?
Steemit is a social media platform that works by having the crowd reward the crowd for its content. It does so thanks to Steem's Blockchain and crypto conversion; Steem is "coined" daily and distributed to content producers according to the votes they get.

How is Steemit different from other social networking websites?
Most social networking sites extract value from their user base for the benefit of the shareholders alone. Steemit is different, it's a new kind of attention economy. By connecting with the Steem blockchain (which is decentralized and controlled by the crowd), Steemit users receive all the benefits and rewards for their attention.

Do I have to pay to post, comment or vote?
No. It's free to post, comment and vote on the content of Steemit.com. You could even be paid for it!

Can I earn digital currency in Steemit? How?
You can win digital chips in Steemit by:

Publication - By sharing your publications, you can earn upvotes from members of the community. Depending on the upvotes you receive, you will get a part of the Steem pool rewards in progress.

Vote and heal - If you discover a post and upvote before it becomes popular, you can earn a healing reward. The amount of the reward will depend on the amount of STEEM Power you have.

Purchases - Users can purchase STEEM or Steem Dollar tokens directly through the Steemit portfolio using bitcoin, Ether or BitShares tokens. They are also available in other markets and exchanges, including block trades, Poloniex, Bittrex, Shapeshift.io and Change. The STEEM chips that are fed with STEEM Power earn a small amount of interest for the celebration.

Where do the coins come from?
The Steem network continuously creates digital chips to reward creators and content curators. Some of the newly created tokens are transferred to users who add value to Steemit by posting, commenting and voting on other people's posts. The rest is distributed to the owners of STEEM Power and to the witnesses who feed the blockchain.

Where does its value come from?
At its root, Steem is simply a point system. However, because this point system is block-based, points can be traded in the markets as chips. People buy and sell these chips, and many keep in anticipation of the increased purchasing power of various services related to Steem.

By analogy, Steem is a game system in which users compete for attention and rewards by contributing content and adding value to the platform. The rewards that people earn are chips that have market value and are easily negotiable. It is similar to how someone who plays a video game could get a limited item or coin playing the game. If currency or items are transferable among users, then they can sell or buy them in the gaming market.

Why do some people get very different rewards?
Steemit is not a "get rich quick" scheme. While it is possible to publish content that goes viral quickly and win a large number of rewards in a single publication, this is not typical for most users.

Most of the authors that you see earning high rewards are users who have spent a lot of time in the following building network, making connections with others, and developing a reputation for bringing high-quality content.

It is best to have realistic expectations, without focusing on the rewards when you first start. Work on building a following, making connections, and developing a good reputation. Coherence will pay off in the long term.

How long is the account approval process?

Most accounts are approved within 24 hours. Some may take up to three business days.

If your account has not been approved after three business days, ask for help on the #help channel at steemit.chat.

Why do I need to provide my email and my phone number?

To create an account in the blockchain costs the STEEM tokens. When you create an account through Steemit.com, Steemit Inc. supplies the tokens to pay the account creation fee. In order to prevent users from abusing the paid registration and the creation of several accounts, we must be able to verify that each user only registers for one account.

What are other ways to create a Blockchain account in addition to using Steemit.com?

If you are willing to pay your own registration fee, there are other ways to create a new blockchain account.

There is a third-party tool called AnonSteem that accepts Bitcoin, Litecoin, STEEM or SBD to create an anonymous Steem account. It is not necessary to have an existing Steem blocking account to use the service, but there is a charge over the creation fee of the blocked account for using the service.

There is also a third-party tool called SteemConnect that allows you to create accounts by paying or delegating the account creation fee. There is no additional charge for using the service, but it requires an existing Steem blocking account to pay the account creation fee to create the account.

You are not allowing me to create an account with my phone number. What should I do?

Ask for help on the #help channel on steemit.chat.

What happens if my email or phone number changes?

Currently, there is no way to change the email or phone number that is linked to your account. Although once your account is created, you can still use it even if the email or phone number linked to the account has changed.

Can I create more than one account?

Each user is allowed only one payment account created through Steemit.com, however, users can create multiple accounts in the blockchain. The creation of additional accounts in the blockchain requires users to pay their own quota creation account for an additional account.

Can I delete or deactivate my account?

Accounts cannot be deactivated or deleted. The account along with all its activity is permanently stored in the blockchain.

Community

Is there a protocol for Steemit?

There are no official rules to participate in Steemit.com, but one of the users @thecryptofiend has created a Label Guide for the community. Although it is not necessary to follow the suggestions in the guide, they are rules that many community users decide to follow.

Do you have to verify my identity?

Verification is a process where users give evidence to prove they are the person they claim to be. This is to reduce fraud and people personifying known numbers. If you want to remain anonymous, it's perfectly fine. However, if you claim to be someone specific, the community can expect you to verify that you are who you say you are.

there are many ways to do this. The most common way to verify your identity is to post a link to your Steemit profile on a website or social media account that is already known to have Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, a blog or a photo site.

Many users also like to post a photo or video that shows them holding a sheet of paper with the current date and their Steem account name written by hand on it. This is a great way to add a personal touch to the verification.

What can users post on Steemit?

Steem is an open platform to host and welcome any legal content. Users can post whatever they want, be it phrases, quotes, blogs, anecdotes, photos, videos, memes, songs and more. Be creative!

What are the different options for publication rewards (50% / 50%, Power Up 100%, Decline Payout)?

50% / 50% - This rewards half of STEEM Power and half STEEM / Steem Dollars. The proportion of liquid STEEM to Steem Dollars rewarded is based on the conditions of the network at the time of payment. This is the default payment option.

Power Up 100% - This option rewards the publication in 100% STEEM Power.

Decline Payout - Use this option to not receive post rewards. The votes will affect the position of the publication in the ranking of trends, but no rewards are paid by the Steem rewards fund. Responses to the publication are still eligible to receive rewards.

How do I add images and photos to my publications?

You can browse your hard drive to add an image by clicking on the "select them" link from the editor.

If you have an image copied to the clipboard, you can simply paste (ctrl + v) while in the comment/comment editor and your image will be uploaded to your post or comment. Due to the file size of these posted images, this method is only recommended for simple graphics. Photos (.JPG) must be loaded from your disk.

Images can also be hosted on an external site. Paste the web address of the image (URL) into the editor and it will be added automatically.

How do I add videos to my publications?
To add a YouTube or Vimeo video to your blog post, simply paste the link to the video in the post.

Is there any way to make my images smaller?

Yes, but the image must be resized before it is uploaded to the Steemit.com editor. This can be done with your favourite photo editing software, or online by uploading to a third-party website that offers the edition at imgur.com.

What are tags?

Tags are a way to categorize your content, so others can find it. The more relevant the labels are for the post, the more like-minded people will meet him.

What labels should I use?

Try to use tags that are relevant to your publication, and that will be popular for other people to navigate. For example, "visitjersey" may be relevant to your message, but readers are probably not going to look for that. Using "travel" would be a better option for a label in this case.

You can browse through commonly used tags using the "Explore" link in the main menu.

Be careful when choosing labels. If your labels are not related to your publication, your publication may get negative ratings for errors.

All labels must be in lowercase. Spaces are not allowed, but hyphenated words with a single hyphen are.

How many labels can I use?

You can use up to 5 labels per publication.

Why is the "Publish" button dimmed?

A publication must have a title, a body and at least a valid label. If any of these is missing, then the "Publish" button will be disabled.

How can I use text in Markdown format?

Some of the common markdown syntaxes are:

** bold ** bold
italics italics
~~ cross out ~~ cross out
The text can be classified using headings:

H1

H2

H3

H4

H1

For a more advanced format, you can find a guide that describes the common markup format syntax here: Markdown Cheatsheet

How often can I publish?

You are allowed to post almost as many times as you want. Currently, the posts must be separated 5 minutes apart. However, the community may not find value in users who post too often. Consider what your audience will be interested in seeing, so they do not overwhelm their followers with too much content.

How long can my publication be?

The message sizes are limited to about 64,000 characters, including the format. This is sufficient for most publications. If you write blogs, consider how much people are willing to read at the same time. If you make your posts many times, readers may lose interest that may affect the number of upvotes and rewards you receive.

If I can not publish in a language other than English, how will I be recognized?

You can use language-specific tags to help you reach the audience that speaks your language.

Specific groups of languages include:

Chinese = cn
German = deutsch
Spanish = spanish
Korean = kr
Russian = ru
French = fr

Can I delete something that I published?

The blockchain will always contain the full history of posts and comments, so it can never be completely deleted. If you want to update a publication so that users can not see the content through Steemit.com, you can edit the publication and replace it with blank content.

What does the "Promote" button do in a publication?

When you make a post, there is the option to promote it with Steem Dollars. It will appear in the "Promoted" tab. The order in which it appears on the list depends on how much the publication was promoted. Publications with a greater amount promoted will be greater than publications with less.

Steem Dollars spent to promote a publication are paid to the @ null account, which nobody owns or controls. Once a user transfers SBD to @null, Steem's blockchain removes them from the money supply. Details can be found in this official publication.

You can promote your own publications or publications that you like from other users.

How do I promote a publication?

Economics

Where do the new STEEM coins come from?
Blockchains like Steem and Bitcoin produce new tokens every time a block is produced. Unlike Bitcoin, where all new currencies go to block producers (called miners), Steem's blockchain allocates most of the new tokens to a reward fund. The reward fund offers users tokens to participate in the platform.

How many new coins are generated by the blockchain?

Starting with the network 16 holders in December 2016, Steem started to create new chips at an annual inflation rate of 9.5%. The inflation rate decreases at a rate of 0.01% per 250,000 blocks, or about 0.5% per year. Inflation will continue to decline at this rate until the global inflation rate reaches 0.95%. This will take about 20.5 years from the time the 16th fork comes into effect.

How are the new coins distributed?

Of the new currencies that are generated:

75% goes to the fund of rewards, divided between authors and curators.

15% of the new chips are awarded to the owners of STEEM Power.

The remaining 10% pays for the witnesses to give more power to the blockchain.

What is the rewards group?

Each day, a fixed amount of STEEM tokens are allocated to the network reward fund, commonly called the "rewards pool." These are distributed to the authors and curators to publish and vote on the content.

How is the reward fund divided between authors and curators?

Up to 25% of the payment of a publication is granted to the curators (the people who voted for the publication) as a reward for discovering the content. The other 75% is given to the author. If the curators vote for a publication within the first 30 minutes of its creation, a portion of its healing reward is added to the author's payment. This portion is linear at the age of the post between 0 and 30 minutes. Therefore voting at 15 minutes of age will donate half of your potential healing reward to the author.

Will the rewards group pay more or less depending on who votes?

When users upload or download messages, they do not add or remove money from the rewards group. They are only changing how the pool is allocated. The same amount of rewards will be paid no matter what.

The votes in Steem are weighted bets. Therefore, the more powerful voters of STEEM have a greater influence on the allocation than the voters with less SP, but the votes of greater participation do not increase the rewards in general.

Why do the revenues of my publication go up or down?

The amount shown next to a publication is a "potential payment". This is an estimated value of the amount of money that the publication will make based on the votes that have been produced so far. Depending on several factors, this value can go up or down until the payment window closes:

If a post receives more upvotes, the potential payment of the post can go up.

If a publication receives more downvotes, the potential payment of the publication may go down.

If other publications receive more ascending votes, the possible payment of the publication may decrease.

If other publications receive more downvotes, the potential payment of the publication may go up.

If the upvotes are removed from a publication, the potential payment of the publication may decrease.

If downvotes are removed from a post, the potential post payment may go up.

If the price of STEEM rises, the potential payment of all the publications can go up.

If the price of STEEM decreases, the potential payment of all the publications may decrease.

When can I claim my rewards?

Posts and comments remain active for 7 days. When the period is over, you are able to claim your rewards earned. In your Wallet account, click the Claim rewards button to add the tokens to your account.

What is the difference between STEEM, STEEM Power and Steem Dollars?

STEEM - STEEM is the basic symbol of the liquid currency in the platform. STEEM can be powered by STEEM Power, negotiated by Steem Dollars and transferred to other accounts. It is a cryptocurrency token, similar to bitcoin.

STEEM Power - STEEM Power (abbreviated SP) is a measure of how much influence a user has on the Steem network. The more STEEM Power a user has, the more they can influence the value of posts and comments. STEEM Power is less liquid. If a user wishes to "Power Down" SP, they will receive equal distributions from the weekly STEEM, during a period of 13 weeks.

Steem Dollars - Steem Dollars (commonly abbreviated SBD) are liquid currency chips of stable value designed to be linked to $ 1 USD. Steem Dollars can be negotiated with STEEM and transferred to other accounts for trade or exchange. Steem Dollars can also become STEEM in a process that takes 3.5 days. Steem dollars can be used to buy things in markets, such as PeerHub.com.

What is STEAM Power delegate?

Users have the option to delegate STEEM Power to other users. When a user is delegated to STEEM Power, their content votes and healing rewards are calculated as if they were their own STEEM power. Users can not turn off or withdraw the delegated energy from STEEM, as it still belongs to the original owner.

Most users will have a small amount of STEEM Power delegated to them by the Steemit account after creating an account through Steemit.com

STEAM Power is displayed in a user's portfolio below its actual balance of STEEM Power in parentheses.

What determines the price of STEEM?

The price of STEEM is based on the supply and demand of the token, determined by buyers and sellers in the stock exchanges. It is similar to how the price of a commodity such as gold is determined.
