READ THE DAMN ARTICLE!

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Most times I find myself in my overzealous mode, trying to do more than I should, and often than not, the resulting effect is far from the desired effect.
Today, after a long break from steemit I decided to through some articles. Yes, I chose my words precisely-- I was going through them and not reading their content(s)--skimming, trying to find the main point and in the process missing other points-- which are equally important as well. After this whole half-hearted rigmarole I voiced my opinion in the comment section. This left me satisfied at first, why not?! I just drop a very thoughtful comment on this beautifully written article. Well not quite. Because on getting to read other people's comments I realised, and this is the embarrassing part, that had actually made a fool of myself by either proffering solutions already listed in the article or bringing up issues already addressed by the writer. As much as I would like to blame this on the lengthy post(s), which in all honesty can be a herculean task to read, I must also admit my fault, which doesn't come naturally to me: I just want to earn quick cash (cryptocurrency).
I have realised that when money is involved, it's easy to shift people's gaze from the actually essence of a thing to their personal gain, which in this case is making money.
I've heard so many writers talk about adding value to the steemit platform and I think one of the ways we can actually do this is by being good readers and appreciating the quality of every article, okay maybe most, and not just because we want others to read ours too. One way you can be a good writer, and this one is for me as well, is by reading everything in the article, yes, I mean every single thing. It's easier when you read the things you fancy but we are not restricting our knowledge or interest on steemit, no sir! Here we love to learn new things. And yes of course it can be confusing at first. Some of the articles you might stumble upon are most likely to be technical or too lengthy, given the nature of the subject being discussed but if you take your time to read you might find something useful in that plethora of information.
So, fellow...what do we call ourselves here? Steemitians? Anyway, we all need to be take our time in reading the articles on this platform, and most importantly, enjoying the process. Yes, it will help build our profile and earn us a little here and there, but ultimately the goal is to enjoy the process.

So read the damn article.

Sort:

It is discurising to write articles for only two or three people that really read what you write but see it as an archive with your work and you can always use it later again in a different setting like a book.

I can relate to that feeling. But we keep pushing regardless. With time things will change, hopefully.
