Crowd-funded Anime Film "Hakubo" Releases Enigmatic Key Visual

in #steemit7 years ago

Work is progressing on Hakubo ("Twilight"), an upcoming anime theatrical film project by director Yutaka Yamamoto (Wake Up, Girls!), and although the official website for the film has not been published yet, a new piece of key artwork already has fans speculating that the film may contain a supernatural element.

The new key visual features a young man painting a landscape and a young woman playing the violin while twilight falls in the background. Sharp-eyed fans have observed that the young woman's legs fade into transparency, leading some to believe that she may be a ghost. (In Japanese culture, the spirits of the dead are often depicted as not having feet.)

Hakubo was successfully crowdfunded via the pledges on the Campfire website, raising some 21 million yen (about $180,000 US). The film is written and directed by Yutaka Yamamoto. Set in the city of Iwaki in Fukushima Prefecture, the film serves as the concluding story of Yamamoto's "Tohoku Trilogy". Hakubo aims at a theatrical release in Japan in 2018.
