💡 STEEMIT JARGONS ( Steemit guide series 2)♨

Talking about Steemit Jargons, one of the most difficult aspects of Steemit for a lot of users is the Jargons or registers used. This could really be frustrating especially for users that are entirely new to the cryptocurrency space. But not to worry, I will try to demystify these Jargons as much as possible.

Below are a few Jargons and their meaning. We will keep on updating the list bit by bit.

RESTEEM
This means sharing a post you find interesting to your followers. When you resteem a post, it is pinned to your blog page. It is just like retweeting on tweeter or sharing on Facebook. The resteem button is the reverse arrow button you find just below every post.

UPVOTE
To upvote a post is to give a post monetary value. It helps to distinguish quality and valuable content from less valuable contents based on reader's preferences.

Upvote is to Steemit what “like” is to Facebook, save the monetary value. Any post or comment that is not currently locked after receiving its payout can be upvoted. You can upvote a post by clicking on the up arrow (^) symbol under the title in the category lists, or at the bottom of an opened article. To upvote a comment, look just below the comment for same button (^).

DOWNVOTE
This is a negative vote used to discourage anti-steemit contents.
To downvote a post or comment, simply click on the small flag at the top right corner of the post. The number on the flag if present, signifies the number of downvotes the post already has.
Please use down votes only when it is absolutely necessary. Don't down vote a post or comment simply because you don't agree with the writer's point of view (POV). Every Steemian has right to speech, ideas and beliefs.

TAGS
Tags helps make your post listed in multiple categories of searches in Steemit. Appropriate tags helps increase your exposure to people searching for materials on the tags used. This ultimately increases your earning potentials.

You can use either of these methods to tag your posts.

Method 1
Inputting a tag into the "tag" field when making a new post. Maximum number of tags you can use here is five(5) and must all be in lowercase letters

Method 2
Including a tag within a story itself by putting a hashtag in front of a word. For example, #promo-steem #steemit #stach #introduceyourself #genesisproject #nigeria etc.
Please remember to ensure that your tags are relevant to your content.

PLAGIARISM
This is simply stealing of intellectual property. According to Wikipedia, Plagiarism is "wrongful appropriation" and "stealing and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions" and the representation of them as one's own original work.

Plagiarism is a cardinal sin on the Steemit network. Don't get involved in it.

CURATION REWARD
This is the reward you get for voting on a post. About 70% of the rewards of any post usually goes to the author; while the remaining percentage is shared amongst everyone that upvoted and/or commented on the post. It pays to be a curator and an author.
Curation rewards are usually paid in Steem Power.
