This is Steemit - Beyond the Platform

Steemit is just over a year old (launched in May 2016) and even though my anniversary with Steemit is still 2 months away, how much has happened in that time is pretty crazy! 

Welcome to Steemit!

In the last few days/weeks, according to the Steemit Stats from @gavvet, there has been a strong increase in "Steemit traffic", new active users joining the network:   

So I thought let's introduce new members to the community by sharing what we've enjoyed most/discovered about Steemit and see who can relate..

There are many reasons as to why you are on STEEMIT right now and would tell others to join. Depending on your background, your main reason might have been, that Steemit is... 

1. the fist social media network built on blockchain technology 

2. the first decentralized social network 

3. the platform where you get paid for the creating and curating of content. 

If you would have asked me in July 2016 what sets Steemit apart from other social media platforms, I would have given you a similar answer, including those reasons and I still do today, but I want to add one point to the list. The mentioned point are still accurate and incredible benefits of this platform, but there is one missing! The by far most valuable one, that any member I've personally talked to agrees with, as to why you don't want to miss out on being part of the Steemit community.   

... It all started almost a year ago, in July 2016 when I joined Steemit, without any expectations and out of pure curiosity. I received a warm welcome with many positive comments and messages like never before and I already knew, that there was something about this platform.

On any other social media, the hate and judgement is real! I refuse to read through the comment section on Youtube, because from what I've been seeing it's mostly dominated by trolls, leaving negativity on the platform for now reason.  The people, the active user-base creates the foundation of any network! Think about business. At the core of any company or cooperation it is about nothing else, but the people. The greater the team, the stronger the outcome... 

...and for some reasons, Steemians are just that. My theory is that right now blockchain technology connects people with a different kind of mindset.

Signs of being a Steemian:

There are only so many individuals who try something before it goes viral, those who predict the future before it happens and are excited about technology changing the world.  We are people who always look behind the curtains, dare to understand the system we live in, we are knowledge-seeking, tech-savy, positive, caring, good-hearted, supportive...

...optimistic and most importantly open-minded people! 

We are not just usernames, we are real human beings with beautiful souls!  

If you can relate to any of these points, you are likely to be a Steemian.

So most importantly Steemit in my opinion is:

 4. the first social media platform, that attracts unique people with positive minds!   

AMSTERDAM   

The fist Steemfest 2016 proved to me what Steemit is all about and that the connection of Steemians isn't just digital, but goes beyond the web. The Steemfest weekend was one to remember, filled with positive vibes and interesting conversations! @andrarchy @xeroc @kevinwong @gardenofeden @knozaki2015 @mammasitta @nanzo-scoop @roelandp @wadepaterson @blueorgy @anahilarski and many more! 

HAMBURG & BERLIN 

The german Steemit-Community grew quickly. We attended and hosted meet ups,  where thoughts on german regulations in the crypto space get exchanged, the future of technology and finance are discussed and every meet up our team welcomes new faces who are interested in the crypto world and excited about connecting with likeminded people…

and let's not forget my co-host @piedpiper and @wideopenworld ! Our show naturally came together, we have similar visions and I can’t think of any other platform where such a cooperation would have happened.. 

LONDON  

When I went to London to attend Blockchain Week and met some Steemians, again there was this vibe of „hey cool, you’re also on Steemit so we basically know each other“.

YOU KNOW A STEEMIAN WHEN YOU SEE ONE!

Because the energy here is so positive, you aren’t afraid to be yourself and real with your posts, which results in people knowing each other in some way before actually meeting in person. On other platforms there is more „pretend to be“ than actually „being“, less connections and more fake smiles. Also the support here is quite incredible. If you have any question when it comes to for example coding in html; uploading images; transactions etc. you can just message experienced user on steemit.chat and from my personal and friends' experience at least 4/5 are going to help you find a solution. The care is real!

MUNICH  

The blockshow conference felt like a small Steemit reunion and once again it wasn’t like meeting random people like it would be the case on other social media platforms, but people you already have something in common with!
 

Yes there are many reasons why you can be thankful that you’ve discovered and joined Steemit, but to me what’s most special is the people forming the network! 

Social media has never felt so social! 

 

I’m excited for the growth of the network and I’m not afraid about an increase in quantity resulting in a decrease of quality, because the foundation is set in the beginning. Obviously as more people join the network, there will be some trolling and different sub-communities forming, but the overall tendency of the network I believe to only increase in positivity. The merge of the crypto and social media world has brought new energy in the digital world to liffe, and I'm excited to be a part of and welcome all new members to this incredible experience!
