6 signs you’re mentally and emotionally exhausted.

Life is a rollercoaster. You never know what’s around the corner. One minute everything’s looking up, the next it’s all crashing down around you. It can be hard to get your head around sometimes. It just doesn’t make any sense. There’s so much to cope with, so many things to have to juggle. It’s often too much to bear. What’s important in these moments is to keep a level head and a sense of perspective. You have to take time to rest and recharge to cope with the trials and tribulations of life.
The seven signs listed below are indicators that you need time to rest emotionally and mentally. Slow down, think things through, and process the events in your life, good or bad.

You lack motivation

If you find it difficult to get anything done, to get out of bed perhaps, or to go to work, chances are you’re not in a healthy emotional or mental state. It’s important to take the proper action to care for yourself. Change the circumstances in your life that are under your control to try and get yourself on better footing. Don’t let your life just happen to you! Take the wheel and steer!’

You have trouble sleeping

We’ve all been there: lying awake for hours at night, staring up at the ceiling. Perhaps there’s something on your mind stopping you from relaxing enough to drift off, or a feeling of emptiness that you just can’t get away from. Whatever it is, it’s reflective of your mental state and action should be taken to try and help yourself. Perhaps practice meditation to help you relax or see a therapist.

You’re anxious a lot

Anxiety is a horrible, paralysing, desperate feeling. Everyone feels anxious from time to time, but if you’re constantly haunted by feelings of anxiety, you don’t have to suffer in silence. Take the time to get the help you need, to try and relax and to avoid stress as much as possible. Talking to people close to you that you trust or seeing a therapist can be extremely helpful.

It doesn’t take much to upset you

Being overly sensitive and quick to feel upset and hurt by the slightest thing is a sure sign that you’re worn out and need time to cool off. Life isn’t out to get you, no matter how much it can sometimes feel like it. Life will hurt you, often, and it’s how you choose to react to this pain that most influences your happiness.

You feel numb

It’s not uncommon for people to withdraw into themselves in the face of distress and sadness. After a while of feeling low, quite often a person will begin to feel numb and emotionless. This isn’t a permanent mind state, but a temporary defense mechanism to help cope with pain and trauma in life. It’s easier to block out the pain than it is to really feel it. If you feel numb or distant you need to take time to work things out. Dealing with the source of your pain and sadness is essential to returning to living a normal life.

You often want to cry for seemingly no reason

Crying doesn’t just come out of nowhere. It’s a response to emotion, whether happy or sad. If you find yourself sobbing at the tiniest things, take time to reflect and really explore your feelings. Chances are, you’re fundamentally unhappy and worn out with the way things have been going. If this is the case, it’s time to reanalyse your life and what you want from it. It’s important to take steps towards positive growth and becoming a better, happier person.
Whenever you feel worn out or run down emotionally and mentally, take time to spend on yourself. Talk things over with people you trust and rest. It’s important to look after your mental and emotional wellbeing as you would your physical health. Spend time on you, process stress and upheaval in your life in a healthy manner, and make sure you’re always looking out for number one.
