What to do when you're feeling depressed

I have been feeling really down for the last couple of days. Not feeling like myself at all. The hardest part of this is that there is so many things right now that are making me feel this way and some of the things are stuff that I can't do anything about myself. So I find it very hard to find the strength to change the things I know I can do something about because it feels like it won't be any better after that... It's like I don't have any control of what's happening in my own life although that sounds crazy when I say it out loud.

Yep. This is exactly how depressing I am right now.

But at the same time I feel like there is no shame in having these bad days, or even weeks. I know that I feel much better when I get to talk about my problems and my feelings, but at the same time I HATE it. So today I thought about trying something new; I'm going to write about how shitty I feel today on Steemit and then make a list about things that I have to look forward to.

Because who aren't in a good mood when they have something nice to look forward to? That's why I always plan fun things to do on the weekend if I'm really tired and bored at work on a Monday or something.

Here's my "Looking-forward-to-list":

1. My cousin's son's birthday party

On Saturday I'm going to a birthday party. My cousin's son is turning 4. I love birthday parties, because you get to catch up with friends and relatives that you don't see otherwise!

2. Baltic Jazz

Next weekend (7-9.7) it is time for the yearly jazz festival in Taalintehdas. The small village that is usually so quiet and peaceful becomes full of life and music. It's always nice to visit our summer place there, but this is the one weekend you shouldn't miss! I hope to get my boyfriend with me there and hang out with some friends and have a few drinks.

3. A trip to my "real" summer cottage

My dad has this beautiful summer place on a small island in Korppoo and I think we will go there in the middle of July with my younger brothers. This place is for me a "real" summer cottage without any electricity and with a outdoor toilet. Of course there is a sauna and you have to go there by boat.

4. My cousin's wedding

On the last Saturday of July my second oldest cousin is getting married! I absolutely LOVE weddings! I am actually already engaged myself, but we have decided to get married first in a few years or so.

5. My new job

In the beginning of August I will start at my new job as a school assistant. The best part about this for me is that life is getting back to normal. It's great with summer vacation, but I miss our apartment and having routines in the daily life. Of course it will be nice to make some money and maybe travel somewhere during Christmas or next summer!

Yesterday when I was feeling a bit better and we went to the hospital to see my boyfriend's newly born nephew.

No idea what's going on with my arms! They look creepy... Besides that, I like the photo very much!

I can tell you that I already feel better after making this list. So if you also are having a bad day, make sure you do something to make it a little less bad (maybe a similar list?) or just take a day off from all your duties and relax. There is no hurry in this world, but you have to remember to think about the positive things and not just focus on the bad ones.

Count your blessings while others are adding up their troubles.
Someone told me that always look at people who are bigger in life than you, for inspiration and look at the ones who are in poor condition than you, as then you will value yourself.

I guess I have some trouble valuing myself highly enough sometimes. You know, when you are at your lowest and feel worthless.. Thankfully I have much more of the good days than bad!

i find doing good things and being busy can help -but if i am really down it is like nothing makes any difference -- my wife helps a lot by loving me well

Im depressed because I have no real friends, so nearly all of my time is spent on the computer.... what a waste of time

I don't have a lot of friends either.. But I enjoy being by myself most of the time :) And you can also have friends on the internet, it's nothing wrong with that!

When i feel depressed i use to go to the swimming pool, to swim and feel something really physical.. It can't resolv all my problems, but on the moment i really feel better :)

Swimming is nice. Maybe I'll have to go swimming later today... :) I actually live near a lake and it's almost 20 degrees Celsius in the water now!

When I feel sad, I usually go for a walk or I write. Either way, it's great for the soul and it clears my head.

If I'm out and about and not feeling myself, I still can crack jokes and make people laugh. If I can make others happy with my wit and humor on a bad day, then I'm happy.
