Even the top authors are making a lot less, so I could only imagine how little the newbies showing up are getting, so that would explain the post and author decline across the board.
I hope that the new fork in steem helps allot on that.
We shall see, but they would have to make it less pay to play for that. A lot of the people we see at the top of the charts are just self-voting themselves there, but they have already ran out of interesting stuff to blog about... hence the dramatic decline.
