Are you an Adventurer?
An Explorer?
Curious?
Willing to try something new?
A Writer or Video Producer?
Like Numbers?
Or just a Geek like me?
Then Steemit.com might be something enjoyable for you!
Notes: These are my notes to you as of today. I’m not an expert or whale*.
Things change daily on Steemit.com and the cryptocurrency market changes as well.
Steemit is a newish social media platform where you can blog, comment and interact.
Steemit.com is the website for the social media platform.
You can blog there, and comment there and interact with new people and upvote and downvote others.
Per their About, “Steem is a blockchain-based social media platform where anyone can earn rewards.”
Steem is the company. Steemit.com is the website for the social media platform (redundancy is the key to learning!).
The interface is beta. Lots of changes all the time.
It has a large technical audience because it’s attracting those folks with its A.
Open source like attitude and interface B. It rewards folks with crypto currency (which has a learning curve)
Like you, new people are always interesting to me.

If you like numbers, lots of numbers to check!
Here’s my five cent tutorial on the crypto currency:
- -Blockchain based means all your interactions, content, comments are recorded in the blockchain
- -Rewards are in Steem dollars (STD or SD) and Steem Power
- -Steem Power is more like compensation you forget about and accrue over time—this is given by Steemit and corresponds to vote and voting power
- -Steem Dollars can be exchanged to BTC (Bitcoin) then to USD (US Dollars). This may take 2 additional services to complete the exchange. Market values may vary.

There is also a reputation ranking on Steemit. High ranking folks are whales.
The scale used to be 1-9 but today the highest ranking person is my artist extraordinaire Michele the Trainer Show podcast guest, Leah Stephens, @stellabelle with 72. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/michele-the-trainer-show/id1030900143?mt=2&ls=1
We all know 72 is more than 9. Just an example of how things change often in Steem world. http://steemwhales.com/?e=1

Other notes:
At this time, I use Chrome as the better browser for Steemit posts/editing Steemit posts.
Each image requires a URL to add the image. You can insert as href or Markup language.
Upvotes are limited by time due to payouts, but you can comment forever. You can gain significant brownie points from comments too.
I have repurposed content and just mark it clearly “Published before on…” I think original content rules, however.
Try to not confuse the terminology. The website is Steemit.com.
There are security issues including spam and some regarding content, but I’ve always read that they are well prioritized and resolved.
There are some very crafty ways to innovate, create opportunity, and income. I've seen some posts take off with compensation that would easily outdo a crowdfund. Also contests and other innovative ideas abound.
This isn’t like an affiliate program and I’m not getting anything for sharing this with you. I just thought you would want to know what’s out there and to demystify it a bit.

I’m not an expert. Just sharing something that’s been a fun spare time enjoyment. All in all, to me today, it’s like the Space Invaders of blogging platforms. It’s like a gamified content platform. The content editor, today, is not as user friendly as big office programs, etc., but I’ve seen many improvements, daily, since I’ve used it. If you have a blog, or have self-published you will figure it out and manage.
There are some nice smart folks on there. That's the best part!
See you there?

Followed. It's pretty hard to find the geeks in this place.
ooh good idea @neurosploit maybe we should go strong on a geek category!
Yes. I'll try to prepare some posting for the category.
Just start using the word geek as a tag and we can make it happen
Thanks Michele, still trying to get my head around this one and your input helped
Thanks @mayaden ..if you have any questions let me know
use #geek for posts relevant to the category :) and it shall grow
i'm adding it to this post! thanks @cristi
