This post will explore a borderline controversial topic on the platform, What is quality content?

What makes quality content is in actual fact subjective.

My curiosity has been on another level of high regarding this "quality content" argument that’s why I want to connect with you guys through the following questions;

  1. If you only have time to read 1 post on Steemit or watch a Dtube video a day, what would that piece of content be about?

  2. What kind of topics do you deem valuable on Steemit?

  3. Do you prefer long-form posts or short form blog posts?

  4. Do you prefer videos over blogs, or blog over videos, why?

  5. What is your go-to tag on Steemit?

I would really love to hear your thoughts on these in the comments.

Thanks for engaging.

Interesting Post, here my answers fam.

  1. id read tutorials or reviews. As for videos , it would probably be a lecture or debate of some kind, entertainment wise i enjoy music vids

  2. I enjoy articles or posts that people can gain knowledge from, like scientific theories, programming tutorials etc. the subcategories leads to an abyss lol. I try to keep my stuff short and sweet without ommiting vital info

  3. & 4. It depends on what Im looking for, both are fine (long-short).

  4. #life

Thanks for taking the time to engage @stealtos.
I agree, one who doesn’t learn is as well as dead, knowledge is key.
#life is one of my favourite go tos too.

Thanks again, much love.

Very good question and the answer is indeed totally subjective.

On one hand some see Steemit as a replacement for Facebook and YouTube, but scoff at people using it as exactly that, with one liner posts and all.

Others seem to want only content produced by folks with IQs beyond 160 who, incidentally, aren't always the most entertaining writers out there.

Recently a new phenomenon crept up: The Shit Post Police. They have somehow given themselves the right to be Judge, Jury and Executioner when they encounter a post they deem unworthy of their time and with the support of a whale whose one liner shitposts do very well, flag the dog doo out of his competitors. (retaliation will follow; it always does)

Lately the focus seems more on engagement than "quality" of work, and I'm perfectly OK with that because as a publication platform, Steemit has not yet managed to give serious content creators the exposure they need to thrive. The content creator is dependent on a large upvote from a Whale or the platform itself, and they aren't necessarily experts on quality art and in the case of the platform, there is the risk of being perceived as being biased.

Steemit wants and needs mass adoption to grow and that means we have to tolerate all tastes and skill levels. For now that means I have to rummage through a lot of posts that I personally consider garbage.

I can't specifically answer your 5 questions as in my case they can all be answered with: "well, it depends" so this generalization is the best I can do. Greetings!

@onnovocks first of all, appreciate you being here to engage.

Food for thought.

From my POV, Steemit needs to clarify its mission before even thinking of mass adoption, I feel like it still lacks the simplistic approach and I'm sure you're aware of how short the attention span of the society is these days.

The Shit Post Police... :))

Place a good thing in the hands of us, humans, you'll be shocked what negatives are generated from that.

Steemit is a duality. It is a crypto currency, subject to market manipulation, and it is a social media platform. The great thing is that it is a currency you actually do something with, but having it powered up also puts one at a disadvantage in that you can't sell on the drop of a hat.

It works in 2 ways and neither are perfect. An investor, out for pure profit could cut his overhead and speed up trades by not buying it or not powering it up, and an investor who is in for the long haul has every right to post whatever garbage he wants. In this situation it is really tough to specify what exactly one is trying to accomplish as the 2 conflict in certain areas.

The Shit Post Police is very real. Unlike the Cheetah Bot, who goes after pure plagiarism, others expanded their flag campaign against any poster who they feel isn't putting in any effort, or abuses the reward pool through spam, bots, what have you. They work as groups under banners like steem flag rewards and such but won't flag their benefactors for doing the exact same thing.

That being said, Steemit is also a great place to experiment with multiple accounts and folks that don't venture out of their set communities aren't bothered much by this stuff. I think we should abandon the idea of Steemit being a place for great works of art and accept that it is going to be a mix; a reflection of the real world where garbage can pile up on the sidewalk right next to an architectural master piece.

Greetz :^)

Powering up from a short-term trader's/ an investor's point of view, opportunistic price swing is evasive to capitalize on, doesn't make sense in my opinion.

The great thing is that it is a currency you actually do something with

This is why I like the currency, it's used for something unlike other shitcoins out there.

That being said, I feel, each and every Steemian needs to clarify the reason why we are here, what do we want to accomplish on this platform, are they achievable with the situation of the platform, and what needs to be done to achieve those goals and not be the happy go-go sheep in the herd.

@onnovocks you've indeed given me another perspective on how to look at things here

I can only state why I came here. It was a try before you buy opportunity to check out the crypto world. In addition I was hoping I could do something with 20+TB of music video I have sitting here, but Steemit's payment structure is not interesting to serious content creators because no one wants to work for days to create something for a $0.20 payout. We need to find a way to fix that and I have some ideas.

Working hard on something to see $0.20 payout is not encouraging that’s why I feel main motivation for being on Steemit shouldn’t be about the money even though money is important too, it’s right next to oxygen if you know what I mean 😊.

So what do you plan to do with the 20+TB of music video if you don’t mind me asking?

Ideas - sharing is caring, might help the platform.

I can wipe the footage, or I can try to find a way around the limited exposure by using multiple accounts and chaining them.

DTube actually erased videos, I think that means I can reuse them. I'll find out soon enough.

Dear mic I saw your blog through the hit parade from @arcange and I thought I’d take the opportunity to aswer to your questions.
I would read life posts if I only had time to tead one blog, cause Thats really big. Life is BIG.

@bhaski I agree and I think a blog WITH nice picture is nicer to read. Did you know that you can be a frame-thinker. You take in a story through pictures.

@brittandjosie How’s it going in Holland?

Life is indeed BIG, life lessons and the knowledge/wisdom to be learned arek endless.

Long form blog post - think of it as the estimated amount of time it will take to read it, so long form post will definitely take more time to read, personally, as long as I’m engage with the content I’m good.

Short form blog post - takes less time to read, my favourite especially when it’s direct to the point, informative without leaving any details out, #sweet.

Now that I’ve explained, kindly share your preference too.

I haven’t visited those tags but I will do so in a few and come back to you on that.

Thanks so much for engaging with my post 😊

I think, that all the topics are valuable in Steemit. The important thing is to look for the difference, with relevant contents that contribute some value to the users who read.

@ahaaiah at the end of the day, it comes down to giving value through each post, it would be great to streamline things a little hence my OP. There's always someone getting value from whatever post is out there.
Thanks for stopping by @ahaaiah
