Thinking out loud

Been wondering, I always come across posts and see earnings of over a thousand sbd...I barely get any upvote and I keep asking myself "what am I not doing right.?or maybe steemit is not for me " thought of closing my account but decided to give it a try one more time.. Can someone please tell me what am missing
