JOB HUNTING IN NIGERIA: A terrible experience

Having experienced the cruel world of job hunting in my country Nigeria, decided to write about it.

MEANING OF JOB HUNTING

Job hunting , job seeking or job searching is the act of looking for employment, due to unemployment, underemployment, discontent with a current position, or a desire for a better position. The goal of job hunting is usually to obtain a job interview with an employer which may lead to getting hired.

NOW HERE'S THE MEANING OF JOB HUNTING IN NIGERIA.

1: Job hunting in Nigeria deals with a graduate looking for a job that's not in any way related to what he or she studied in the university simply because corruption has taken the better part of the labor market and lawyers now work as bankers, nurses as entrepreneurs, marketeers as Tv presenters and so on.

2: Job hunting in Nigeria involves you being looked down on, talked to rudely and even insulted by people who think they have the power or right, simply because they are fortunate enough to have attained a particular height or secured a high position in an organization. You're being insulted because you're trying to fit into the labor market and yet they complain about corruption in the government and political abuse of power.

3:Job hunting in Nigeria is all about you being capable of handling a particular position in an organization or company yet being denied the opportunity to, since vacancies and positions have already been set aside or reserved for the relations and friends of people in higher authorities.

4: Job hunting in Nigeria entails you rarely being given the opportunity for at least an interview because you have no recommendation from a prominent person or someone who has a say in the society .

5: Job hunting in Nigeria deals with spending a whole day walking under the hot sun looking for an opportunity, yet you keep hearing "no vacancy"

I could go on and on about what job hunting means in Nigeria. Millions of people keep trooping into different universities with the hope of getting better jobs in the future to better their lives and that of their families while millions graduate every year and their future on the labor market cannot be ascertained. I'm familiar with the saying that " education is the key to success ", but I wonder if it's still the key or has the padlock been changed without us having the slightest idea.
How and when did we get to this state where young graduates with potentials end up becoming motorcycle riders and market women. I truly hope there'll be a positive change in the nearest future, but now I can boldly say that Job hunting in Nigeria sucks.
