Hi Everybody, In writing a music either a composition or an arrangement you should have 3 basic knowledge.

1. Form
2. Harmony progression
3. Musical instruments to be written.

with these basic knowledge, we are able to write at any time even without ideas that comes from your heart and soul. I believe there is no limit to the writing but suitability to the proposal of the writing are crucial.

I’ll try to explain in the form that everybody can understand.

FORM
This is important because without the song FORM you are going no where. The FORM leads direction of the song. For example AABA form.

HARMONY PROGRESSION
This one create the environment of the piece. Sad, Happy, love, lonely, determine …etc are often used in many pop song compositions. The used of minor and major chord progression may create different feeling and dynamic moods. In additional, the used of borrowed chord and secondary dominan can create identity of the masterpiece.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
Musical instruments to be written are as important as the Form and Harmony progression. This is because every instruments created their own characteristic. Example the characteristic of notes for tuba are surely not suitable for Violins to play.

I have attached the medley of Malaysian traditional music ‘Kain Songket and Nona Nona Zaman Sekarang’ in which I have had written for the primary school Choir Competition. You are welcome to analyze.
