Upward and Onward - Start Again - Reinvent
Keeping a business going, or even getting it started, takes herculean efforts some times. I actually did a huge series of 3-D arrows back in the late 90's. I was living in downtown Detroit and times were tough. The city was vacant and crime ridden, but also an awesome awe-inspiring display of a world forgotten. It felt like the apocalypse, like we were the remnants, running around like it was our personal playground. Who is we? The artist community who filled up the open floors of the buildings that were left. Lofts - back when lofts meant something other than high-end condo. So, maybe without realizing it, I was pushing hard, pushing upwards with my symbolic arrows. Rising above and demanding to make it in a forgotten city, make it as an artist, make a community of like-minded friends. I'd say it was tons of fun, but it was tough too. I had too many thefts not to mention the carjack. But I remained positive. Here is a new one - an ode to the past series and a testament to the new positive push for my business. www.maureenmaki.com
