What is Steemit and what is it aiming to do?

Imagine being paid for upvoting good content over facebook/insta or any other social media platform.

Well, this is what steemit is. You get STEEM Dollars when you curate good content, when your posts attract eyeballs and upvotes. STEEM Dollars are a kind of cryptocurrency and you can convert them to any of the fiat currencies - through channels. Like, you can make your account on an exchange, get STEEM converted to Bitcoin, transfer your Bitcoin to a local exchange and then convert it into local currency.

The above process might be complex for a beginner but it’s worth it. I’ve also seen some people leaving jobs for becoming full time steemers (I’ve no such plans though :P ).
