Luxley - "Near Me" Press Photo Series

in #steemit5 years ago (edited)

So as we dive into the winter of 2019, I wanted to share a little press photo series for a music single that I released last fall called "Near Me." The press photography for this song was covered by multiple photographers (Owen Behan on a Sony (Germany & Mexico) and Ollie Alexander on a Canon (New Orleans)). Lighting and wardrobe assistance by Justine Bird.

Now, as with most of my music content, I tend to direct a lot of it - even the photographic concepts. The press photos for this song covered a lot of terrain (parts of Mexico city & New Orleans) and utilized various photographic techniques. I've only included the photos that were published in promotion of the song. None of these photos were used as the artwork for song. I created that separately. I will post the rest of the photos that were taken at some point.

Photo descriptions and a song link below. Enjoy!

I really wanted to frame the release of this song around a motion blur theme, yet still keep it organic. This was taken in the French Quarter in New Orleans - right next to the historical Jackson Square. This was the first ever photoshoot that forced me to manipulate camera shutter speeds (to the max). I recommend every photographer create a shutter speed assignment.

I found an eerie motion blur photo of a decrepit woman once, and it truly inspired me to recreate something similar. I posted a GIF of this as a separate Steemit post. Check it out - its wild!

This is the photo that brought it all together for the song release. Lighting assistance by Justine Bird.

This photo is what I visualized over and over again when I listened to "Near Me". The feeling of something missing...the feeling of losing someone and reflecting back on what they left behind. The song's title actually juxtaposes its meaning because the song is about "not being near me (or them)." I wrote this song for a previous Luxley fan who took his own life 2 years ago.

This was the last shot of the press shoot and I'll never forget letting the candles burn all night until sunset.

A shot of me on top of a rooftop in New Orleans. Simple post production in B&W. Sometimes when you lose natural light, something awesome happens!

Last segment of the Mexico City shoot. My shirt got caught in the rain so I decided to go more Tarantino.
