Books: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
Books: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
Greetings dear readers and friends of Steemit, I come again with another review about a book that I really loved, with which I sin for a long time by owning it and not give it a chance, it was a gift from my wife and leave it in a drawer for a couple of years before deciding to read it.
The book is entitled "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, published in 2001, belongs to the tetralogy of "The Cemetery of Forgotten Books" and is the first work that composes it. It has been the winner of many awards and was even selected by 81 Spanish-speaking writers as one of the 100 best literary works of the last 25 years.
The work is located in Barcelona during the years after the Spanish Civil War and the plot revolves around Daniel Sempere and the author of the book Shadow of the Wind Julián Carax; book that finds in the Cemetery of the Forgotten Books, place surrounded by certain mysticism to which goes of the hand of his father. It is said that in this place one does not choose the book, but the book chooses one, so in a certain sense, The Wind’s Shadow chooses Daniel to solve the mystery that revolves around its author.
Daniel, is trapped by the novel that he has just found and after finishing reading it seeks some information about the author; if he still lives, what other works he has written, anything that allows him to possess it even more, but he comes across that there is no nothing, not a trace of the writer, seems as if had vanished from the face of the earth.
It turns out that he is a stubborn boy with a great determination, so he sets out to investigate what is necessary to find his mysterious idol. Early in his search a stranger approaches and offers him insistently to buy the book he has in his possession, but Daniel rejects it and moves away.
The meeting does nothing but encourage him to deepen his research, so he manages to find the publisher of the work he has, but it is that it was burned to the ground long ago.
Curious events begin to happen around him, events that then evolve until he really feels that his life is in danger, which leads him to settle down to solve the mystery as quickly as possible.
During the passing of the pages appear characters that you can get to feel that they leave the book and sit next to you to relate what they lived. Such is the case of Fermín Romero de Torres, a vagabond that Daniel and his father decided to help and give him a job in their bookstore. One can really listen to Fermín, who is such an eloquent and entertaining being that you will undoubtedly end up accepting him as one of the family.
To finish, with this literary work of Carlos Ruiz Zafón managed to captivate me, his way of writing achieved that I really felt accompanying Daniel in his research, not only that, but also made me feel the despair, joy, anguish and even fear depending of what was happening at the time.
I definitely recommend reading this novel, it has no loss, it is one of those books that you will treasure and want to read again and again until you memorize it and still you will not let it go.
If you already had the pleasure of reading it or want to leave your opinion about the post, do not hesitate to put it in the comments section.
See you soon,
