Books: The Analyst by John Katzenbach

Hi again, Steemit community, today I come again with a post about a book that for me, was key in my perception of literature, until that moment in my life I had not read a book that confused me so much, but that at the same time captured my interested in the plot. This literary work was published by John Katzenbach in 2002, it is his ninth work and possibly the most popular one, even though 2 others have already been nominated for an Edgar and 3 have been taken to the cinema.

The plot centers around the main character Frederick Ricky Starks, a psychoanalyst and a threat he receives in writing, giving him a period of 15 days in which he must discover the identity of the supposed Rumplestiltskin, but in case of failure, he had to commit suicide or let them destroy a member of his family, which are included in the letter. As he decides whether or not to believe in this threat, he receives a visit from a beautiful woman who claims to be associated with Rumplestiltskin, identifying herself as Virgil (emulating Virgil by guiding Dante through Hell) and giving him key information to solve the riddle, although before she gets undressed and as we all know a man cannot concentrate on so many things at once, when one of those "things" is so attractive.

Little time passes before Dr. Starks realizes that the threat is serious, since when calling some relatives he discovers that a niece has received pornographic photographs with threatening messages, his accounts are emptied, a patient commits suicide, leaving a note that accuses him of his death and another patient reports him for rape during his sessions. All these circumstances leave the already recognized doctor totally discredited and bankrupt, without options and desperate; all this could have caused anyone to take the first option of the threat, but not Dr. Starks, he decides to counterattack, investigate who has destroyed his career, left on the street and ruined his life.

I do not intend to talk much more about the plot, since the purpose of these posts is to invite you to read some of the works that I have come across; I know that in previous posts I told the end, but in the case of Hannibal of Cartage, is a historical character and no matter how fanciful a novel of his life, it would end just like in real life, the same would be with a novel about Spartacus, Attila the Hun or any commonly known historical character, but in this novel you really should read it and discover the end of next to Dr. Starks, of how someone with already a "resolved life", is forced to lose everything and with the few pieces that are left, rebuild something that can be considered a life.

If you have already read The Analyst, you can leave your perceptions and/or appreciations of this work in the comments section.

Or if you prefer to make a literary recommendation feel free to do it equally in the comments section. Do not forget to vote if you liked my post and we will read again soon

Until soon,
Luis Colmenares
