How To Grow On Steemit! A Minnow's Guide!

Steemit is the only platform with that many mechanisms of promotion and support for beginners in place.

Hey everyone!

This will be my first official attempt to help newbies who have recently joined this beautiful community of ours. I'm still a minnow myself, however I'm a couple of months ahead from newly registered users, and therefore I decided I would make a post in order to share my humble knowledge of the platform with people who are looking to get started on Steemit.

Steemit is a platform that uses crypto based on Proof of Brain, which is a type of tokens rewards algorithm that encourages people to create and curate content.

It enables tokens to be distributed by ''upvote'' and ''like''-based algorithms and can be integrated with websites to align incentives between application owners and community members to spur growth.

You might have heard that you can earn money on Steemit, and this is absolutely true. However, if you do think you will make some easy money around here, I've got news for you: that's not the case! You need to put in the work! You need to try hard and persist. Needless to say, you need to be original, kind and patient. Steemit is a live organism with caring members who will reward minnows and users in general with upvotes, given that they provide original, quality content. If you do offer your services to the community you will undoubtedly be rewarded and motivated to keep working even harder. Your efforts on Steemit will get exactly what they deserve, so treat the community with respect.

Now let's talk about tactics.

Gather Followers

It is a fact that great authors with a huge following can make a killing on Steemit. You might catch yourself scrolling down the trending page and wondering whether you will ever manage to do what they are doing. I've got news again: you can do it! Just not yet. You don't have followers yet. You might produce incredible original material and still get ignored and overlooked. It is absolutely reasonable though, you need to invest in your work, you need to give in order to start receiving followers. If you don't want to invest in the platform, you can still use your earned Steem Dollars (SBD) in order to get your posts resteemed by bots, such as: @hottopic , @resteembot , @resteem.bot , @superbot , @steemvote and many more that I probably ignore. That way you can get your posts viewed and start receiving more upvotes, comments and followers. The more followers you have the faster you grow and it goes like a snowball effect. But how do you earn Steem Dollars (SBD) without a following? Read the next paragraph.

Comments

Comments! Your superpower! Comments are your greatest asset as a minnow on Steemit. It is the best and easiest way to start earning rewards which you can use however you like. If you leave original, thoughtful and considerate comments you shall get rewarded. Give people honest feedback and not only will you earn rewards, but you will also gain followers. However always keep in mind that you should avoid spamming comment sections with nonsense comments, or copy - pasting the same response to multiple threads. Do you see that little (25) number next to your username? That's your reputation on Steemit and it drops whenever you get flagged. Your reputation is your credibility and you should protect it. A comment can make a great or terrible impression, so use your superpower wisely. If you don't read a post, don't comment.

Be Original

There are accounts such as @cheetah and @steemcleaners that are responsible for detecting plagiarism and keeping the platform clean. You wouldn't want to end up on the @cheetah reports for sharing copy - pasted material as that would harm your reputation and probably cause you to lose followers. Try to add value to the community by sharing original content instead of looking to make a quick profit based on somebody else's work. Steemit is a platform designed for content creators and the rewards system is also designed in a way that promotes the creation and distribution of original content. Want more rewards? Work harder!

Boost Your Posts

You can use your Steem or Steem Dollars (SBD) in order to get upvotes from bid bots such as @upme , @upmyvote , @postpromoter , @buildawhale , @randowhale , @pushup, @tipu , @minnowbooster and many more that I probably ignore. You just send a payment with your link in the memo to get an upvote in every bidding round. More details on how to use their services available on each bid bot's account. Getting your posts boosted will help you make a small return on investment and gather reputation points at the same time. It will also make your posts look more lucrative and help attract followers! You can also comment with @originalworks or @steem-untalented in order to get your original post upvoted and commented by the @originalworks and @steem-untalented bots, another useful mechanism for minnows. Furthermore, you can use the tag #ocd-resteem to have a chance to get your post resteemed by @ocd, which is a curation guild created by @acidyo that helps new steemians and authors get exposure and supports undervalued content by upvoting or resteeming.

Resteeming And Upvoting

Treat your weapons with respect. Don't waste your voting power upvoting your own comments. Instead, use it to upvote comments made on your posts. Upvote and respond to users who took the time to leave a comment. People who never get responses disappear from your blog. You might want to keep those users around. Treat your followers with respect if you want to gather a huge following. This applies to resteeming as well. Do not feed your followers garbage, treat them like you care about them. Do not resteem crappy stuff even if it comes from your best friend. We're talking business here, that's how you should perceive your blog. If you want to help your friend tell them to put in more effort and produce material that is worth resteeming to your followers. Remember, you're trying to add value to the community. Steemit has no tolerance for adventurers seeking easy profits. Be serious about your moves.

Quality Over Quantity

With Steem and Steem Dollar (SBD) prices going up most authors get motivated (and in some cases greedy) to produce more material and post multiple times a day. From my humble point of view, unless you are an exceptional journalist or into politics, then you're just being greedy. It is essential that you post every day in order to get people to follow you, but it is even more significant to consider how Steemians perceive you. If you do have material for 5 different posts, then go ahead and publish them, however you wouldn't want to make 3 different small posts about the same topic in order to maximize the potential rewards. Your marketing knowledge will only get you so far on Steemit, users that treat the platform and the reward pool with respect are much more respected and appreciated here. You need to act with professionalism and post on your blog every day, however if one day you feel like you don't have enough material, then don't post anything. You want to convey the message that you're trying to build up the platform and not just make some green.

Mind Your Own Business

Do not compare or compete. This is not a contest. This is a community. Keep track of your own progress and try to listen to feedback left by users on your blog. Always upvote and respond to kind comments made on your posts. This way you stay engaged and attract more followers in the process. Always try to think of ways to improve your work and try to look at things from a community's perspective. You should be focused on improving and learning instead of just earning. Minding your own business helps a lot in life. Only worry if others don't have enough.
