The way it is currently setup does not seem to reward external views and traffic, only promotion within the steemit community. It does seem like they should give some weight to how many unique views something gets, but wouldn't that be easy to fake?
Interesting. Trending seems to only share upvoted material. Wondering if they'll ever take into account external exposure in at least a very partial way. Steemit can compete with other social media and media platforms if its material ranked well and created more exposure to potential new users. If having a Steemtit Post do well in the outside world of social media and organic search engine rank factored in monetization, you'd likely see a massive influx of users. Everyone wins. Let's hope they play with that soon.
