Yeah don't get me wrong, Steemit is amazing and the team is doing a great job. But you are looking at it from a consumer friendliness perspective and then you are right, this upvote button before you read it is even more convenient than having to open the article. The whole discussion from that perspective is insignificant. However, I look at it from the perspective of being a curator and being able to monetize Steemit. Steemit will need to generate money one day and certain things can influence the actual amount of that. Since that money will be distributed among users its in everyone's interest to address this. Also ask yourself what a curation will be worth if it's unclear how many people actually read the article and ended up upvoting it or not.
