Food Condition
Food conditions in Indonesia face various problems including the influence of variability and climate change, the rampant attack of plant-disturbing organisms, to the high rate of conversion of paddy fields into nonsawah. On the other hand the rate of population growth is increasing. The increase requires additional food supply, especially rice at 2 million tons per year. The current breakthrough by the government is by utilizing swamp land for agricultural production.
Reduced fertile land for agricultural business and increasing national food demand, especially rice due to the increase of population causing the choice of food fulfillment is directed to the utilization of swamp land. The use of swamp land for agricultural areas should be done efficiently and is a very appropriate alternative especially for the production of food crop agriculture. Currently the government has opened swamp for agricultural production of 2,270 ha or 23.8% of the total swamp area that can be used for agriculture. It is targeted that the opening of swamp land can reach 200,000-500,000 ha / year.
